Tysovets Ski Resort
Looking for an exciting winter sport adventure? Why not check out Tysovets Ski Resort. Situated just 32 km from Skole, this is an easily reached destination and the great thing is that your skiing adventure won’t cost you a fortune.
The town of Skole in Ukraine’s Lviv Oblast stands along the Kiev-Uzhhorod train route. From the train station skiers can take a taxi to the ski resort in the Skolivski Beskydy Mountains. The resort of Tysovets stands at 900 m above sea level at the base, rising up to a maximum of 1100 m. Tysovets has three main runs measuring 600 m, 650 m and 800 m. The one run ends at the chair lift’s halfway point and is ideal for lower intermediates. Intermediates and upper intermediates can take on the other two slopes. Each slope has its own lift. The lifts are somewhat slow when compared with other top ski resorts in Ukraine such as Pylypets and Slavsko. Also the queues can get pretty long during the holiday season, which may mean a 20 minute wait or more. It is worth noting that there is also a good beginners run of 500 m near the chairlift, which leads to the hotel and other accommodation. This run has lighting so it can be used up until nine in the evening.
Tysovets Ski Resort draws both local and international snow skiing enthusiasts to its slopes with its really cheap tickets (60 to 80 UAH), regularly groomed slopes, good equipment for hire, trails for racing and a slope for tubing. Even dining at the local hotel cafeteria is well worth it, with delicious meals and drinks for reasonable prices.
Interestingly, Tysovets was once a Soviet ski training base. The Ministry of Defense still has quite a bit of involvement in the area, with uniformed soldiers seen working to clear the snow. Visitors to Tysovets can also view the ski jumps once used by Olympic athletes for training. So if you are looking for a snow sport experience in Ukraine, but have a limited budget, head to Tysovets Ski Resort for a great time.
