Lviv Hotel Wins Awards and UEFA Headquarters Bid

In addition to being named as Ukraine’s best hotel for the second consecutive year, Hotel Leopolis in Lviv has been awarded the honor of becoming the Headquarters for UEFA during the preparation and duration of the UEFA Euro 2012, set to take place in Ukraine and Poland from June 8 to July 1 next year. Lviv meets UEFA’s host city requirements for the Euro 2012, which includes the availability of 15,000 beds for fans and supporters, as well as 2,500 four and five-star hotel rooms for dignitaries and officials.

In an announcement by the Managing Director of the Leopolis Hotel, Udo Heine, it was officially confirmed that the hotel will serve as the UEFA Regional Headquarters for this much-anticipated and prestigious event. He also revealed that the hotel will be upgrading facilities at the hotel and adding more recreation and entertainment areas, including a fitness room and wellness spa, conference halls, an additional restaurant and cocktail bar, as well as increasing the number of rooms to seventy-four.

The Leopolis Hotel received awards for Ukraine’s Leading Hotel, and Ukraine’s Leading Business Hotel at the 18th European Academy awards held in Turkey. The awards were based on votes cast during the year by travel professionals, travel agencies, tour operators, transport hire companies and tourism organizations from more than 160 countries. A total of 213,000 votes are tallied to select winners for 125 categories from more than 500 organizations spread over 47 countries in Europe. For the Leading Hotel category, the Leopolis Hotel was up against world-class competitors in Ukraine such as the Opera Hotel, Donbass Palace Hotel, the Premier Palace Hotel and Radisson Blu Hotel in Kiev. Competitors in the Leading business Hotel category included Hotel Otrada, Hyatt Regency kiev, Premier Palace Hotel and Donbass Palace Hotel.

Noting that an atmosphere of hospitality, along with professionalism and high quality service, were hallmarks of the hotel, Mr. Heine pointed out that the awards are not only good marketing tools for strengthening and promoting the Leopolis Hotel brand both locally and internationally, they are beneficial for the image of the city of Lviv as an appealing tourist destination. Certainly, hosting the UEFA Euro 2012 will put this charming Ukrainian city in the international spotlight.
