Starting December 21st Ukrainians will be able to use the international EDS standard through special SIM cards.

ID-cards with embedded digital signatures (EDS) are being issued in Ukraine, while mobile identification of citizens “Mobile ID” and online registration of marriage and birth certificates will be launched before year-end, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman. A full-fledged launch of mobile user identification service in Ukraine, which will allow citizens to gain access to their electronic digital signatures (EDS) on a mobile phone SIM card, will take place on December 21, according to a head of the National E-government Agency, Oleksiy Ryzhenko.

“For almost a year, Mobile ID services have been tested by our three largest operators. And literally from December 21, the possibility of using mobile identification will be available to absolutely anyone,” he told an International Forum “Ukraine in EU’s Single Digital Market” on Tuesday.

He added that the trials are being completed, and now, commercial operation is on the way. “Of course, first of all, it is about effective protection, because a SIM card is a protected carrier,” the official said. According to Ryzhenko, thanks to the joint work of the Ministry of Justice and the State Service for Special Information and Information Protection in Ukraine, the international EDS standard was successfully implemented, which allows signing electronic documents that will be recognized across the EU. As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 7, the law on electronic trust services came into force. It officially allows launching Mobile ID technology in Ukraine. UNIAN memo.
