  • USA - Losing its Global Influence

It is said that the USA, with its ailing economy, is set to lose global influence against a backdrop of emerging new super powers. Political commentators ponder as to who will hold the biggest global influence in the coming years?
I would argue that global power is already firmly established.
Global power is based within the few hundred elite bilionaire oligarch type investors / business owners who currently weild huge influence that their money and power brings:-
    1. Buying their influence to supress popular opinion through the ownership of media, or by huge advertising (relating to their products) revenues that their trading organisations bring to media companies cash flow. Thus many media companies reliant on this revenue dare not publish anything embarrassing or critical that could effect this revenue stream.
    2. Influence over governments by "buying" or "encouraging" politicians to take decisions favourable to them in order to achieving certain objectives. Also the ongoing threat to individual states to close their manufacturing bases, make workers unemployed, and remove their vast wealth from that country.
    3. Their ability to speculate on international exchanges that manipulate global commodity prices to bring about created situations that advantage their polical objectives and further financial gain.

These are the people that will continue to manipulate with greater effect as indebted and unpopular governments get weaker they will become stronger. They will more increasingly impact upon our lives unless action is taken to stop them.

    Dear Gotno,

I am Ukrainian, grandparents came to the USA early 1900's. I currently live in California.

Our political situation here is such that many of us hate our current president and view him as a socialist trying to destroy our constitution with his progressive/socialist agenda. He will destroy our global influence if left to govern the way he is governing. China already owns more of us than many of us like. Obama and his deceivers keep borrowing money from China. Our country will only get stronger with men and women who believe that our constitution must be followed. I will become an active Tea Party promoter to make sure my grandchildren have the freedoms I have always had.

OUr public schools no longer teach the correct history of our country. OUr kids are taught that government should take care of us. NOT! Many died for the freedom I exercise and I want the government to stay out of my life.

      Hello Linda!

Your response to this thread does not in my view answer the issues that I raise about global influence, but would seem to be more applicable to my recent thread "The Selfishness of the USA".
If you have seen this thread you will know that I cannot agree with your ideas about President Obama's health care bill.
I am puzzled that you describe yourself "Ukrainian" because your grandfather came from here. Surely you are an American citizen? I am English but now live in Lugansk and I'm wondering if you are like many in my country who are born in Britain but call themselves Pakistani, Indian or whatever and will support "their" team rather than the British team at sports events. My feeling is, that if you prefer the other country " Go and live there!"!
Finally, you do not want the USA government to interfere with your life, well when it comes to the right to carry firearms in public places, I cannot agree with you.

        Gotno,

You may wonder why USA has lost its influence. It is directly related to what Linda said. Before the USA was seen as free and independent. Now we are on life support from China and US citizens are politically torn as any other country "struggling for democracy".

Take that combined. Why would US keep in influence after its careless spending and the possibility of complete failure?

        You see, its all related.

Gotno, who you are is not defined by your citizenship as much as your blood. You can't change your blood. In a match Ukraine vs England, which team would you root for?

Right on Linda, we'll show Obama what change really means.

          Stepansas and Linda,

Do not blame President Obama for your country's ills. He has not been in power that long and as you say you want democracy, do you not recognise that Obama was elected by a majority, albeit by a small margin. You must not throw the toys out of the pram because your man didn't win.
Your country has suffered the two terms of the most mediocre administration it has ever know, headed by the most appalling and totally incompetent George Bush. His administration has permitted the Multibillionaire elite (investors / bankers and the like) that I refer to in this thread to run riot and enjoy their finest years of growth. They have doubled their personal wealth and influence thanks to their freind George Bush. They have manipulated the American people through biased press and television. You have been been brainwashed through advertising to buy goods that you could only afford through increased indebtness. To exerbate the problem, too many of these acquired goods were imported, which added to your balance of payments problem. You are now mortgaged to the hilt and living beyond your means. If you country continues as it has done over the last decade itr will go bust. Then you, the basic working American man will feel the pain, whilst the "Smart Money" exits stage left with its secure convertible assets to gated habitats in far flung lands, leaving you to pick up the pieces in will what then be a "has been state".
          Please wisen up!

President Obama has been in power long enough to cause more damage than 8 years of Bush.

I am not suggesting that Obama caused the USA to be the way it is. I am saying that he is taking it to the point of no return.

Your post does nothing but smear Bush. How about your lovely Obama who indirectly gave out millions in bonus' to CEOs and other executives? Ahh, lets overlook that, for he has not been in power long enough. Let us wait to see who gets rich next.

I agree with you Obama should not have allowed those CEO's their bonuses in the same way that Bush should not have supported the bankers and hedge fund speculators. But can you not see that this action only supports my thread argument. A weakened government does not dare to take on these people head on for fear of the very consequences of the retaliation that the "Smart Money" is capable of weilding in a fragile economy.
I must advise you that my view of Bush's incompetence is shared throughout western European countries. We were all happy to see him go, and it is interesting to note all of the English speaking Ukrainians I have met share the same opinion. Consider that at a distance, and not subject to daily (Smart Money owned) American TV propoganda, we are able to analyse things more objectively.

As far as carrying firearms in public, FBI stats show that where there is concealed carry permits allowed the violent crime rate is alot lower. Even criminals aren't stupid enough to start something that they may not be able to finish. You are a product of the ridgid frearms laws of England. Pity that you haven't known the enjoyment of shooting. In the last few days I've shot "elephant guns" almost 300 shots. Yes, all at paper and (shock) no one was injured. Many of these were English rifles even.

Like the bumper stickers say, 'When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" is true. They don't care about the laws. And right or wrong else they wouldn't be criminals. Guns are a tool! Just like the knife, hammer or wrench. No more No Less. Hammers and wrenches can kill also. It all depends on the person holding them. it all boils down to personal responseability.

To AKMIKE: You are right. Canada has just gone through a gun farce. Billions of dollars spent on registring guns. So skeet shooters, and all were to register. If you owned an antique gun, you knew it would be smashed, so there also goes history. The gun crimes here have escalated. The billions spent on gun registry would have been better spent on police forces. That is the Liberals for you

`Tis a pity. Although alot of folks I know had a series of boating accidents just before the Canadian registering began. Many firearms fell to the bottom of lakes deep in the wilds of Canada when boats suddenly tipped over. Funny how that happened!

Even if I'm not carrting a legal concealed pistol I feel better knowing that there are others around who are. That's much better than only the criminals haveing the guns.

Back to the origional topic, Yes the USA is rapidly losing their world power much like jolly old England did after they ruled the seas. But if we can get rid of that jackazz in office and dethone the house and senate next november we stand a fair chance to reverse the damage and take strides forward again.

LOL! I do not know where to start so The old Yankee boy now belongs to China! Well Yes but it has not been an overnight process much of it started when USA decided to invade Afghanistan and Irak in that order the government was up to the hilt in borrowings so the US moved to privatise the cowboy war so borrowings would not show up in their books and encourage mercenaries to borrow some more on behalf of US government hen you must not forget the near collapse of the greatest capitalist system and its banking system with it (tell me who and where most unsecured loans in the debt markets where made to and on sold to overseas investors as secure loans?).
Is it China the oppressors or the bank rollers of your mistakes?
My fault or the rest of the world faults for your own demise? Oh! I see it's Obama's mistake! after nearly two years of government you getting back on track economically and your health system is more egalitarian. Let me tell you this if I had to operate my wife in the US would had cost me U$D150.000. Thanks God we live in Australia so it was barely AUD$ 5.000 out of pocket thanks to Medicare OK! grant you it was a life saving operation but it was elective too. The outcome would have been disastrous and whe would have dies in extreme pain if an operation had not taken place.

Then again I am sick of US bickering in many boards and political correctness from the US and US point of view.
Why don't we discuss our Ukrainian heritage and political problems?

                        Thank you

                          ukieoz,

Glad your wife is well now. Please do not take offence to this.

You know what's cool? The library is a free service. You don't have to pay to go to a park. You don't pay to drive around the city streets. If you have an emergency, calling police is also free.

Now lets open our brain, these aren't free services, you just pay for them in another way. Two things for you to consider. 1) The discount you paid for the surgery was no discount. Someone else had to pay for it along with you. Today, your paying for someone else's surgery. 2) The discount is also probably because the doctor was paid less. 1+2=communism:a political theory favoring collectivism in a classless society

Sorry to raise this dead thread but I wanted Gotno Gizmo to look at this and consider "what if" England and France had this mindset 70+ years ago. Things would have been different worldwide now.

                              Hello Again AkMak!

Although we are deviating from the original thread subject, I will attempt to respond to your comments as I see it.
The human cost to the all the participants of the first World War made such an impact upon the British that they were minded never to go to war again. They resisted doing so even though Winston Churchill warned them that Adolf Hitler was arming to the teeth. As a result Britain was unprepared when it was forced to declare war on Hitler's regime when it invaded Poland, as Britain was obliged to do under a treaty with Poland. The war left my country almost bankrupt because of it indebtness to the USA for the arms we had to buy from the USA in our own defence, because of unpreparedness.
I was born in 1944 and never saw a candy bar or a banana until I was 9 years old because such luxuries were unavailable unless you were rich. Meanwhile the USA gave much of the British debt repayments to the defeated Germany as part of the Marshal Plan. The British have learned that modern warfare it a "no win situation", even if you are on the winning side.
The British people have noted that countries who haven't indulged in recent wars are noticeably better off, with better social conditions and pensions for its citizens.
The British people have protested against almost every war (except the Falklands) that our "Special Relationship" with the USA has involved us in. Indeed, it is an indictment against our democracy that we are fighting in Afganistan, as I'm confident the majority of Brits don't want our soldiers there. We see it as "another no win situation".

As for why don't other countries consider going to war with Switzerland? That's because it's where all the corrupt poltiiciains (especially Asian and African presidents), along with the tax dodging multi billionaire global oligarchs stash their ill gotten gains in their secret ban accounts.
