  • Metrical records for Savelivka, Monastyrys'ka raion, Ternopil's'ka oblast

I am assisting a friend who is looking for information about her grandfather.

Hrynko (Hryhoriy) BABAK was born about 1893 in Sawaluski, Buczacz, Tarnopol (today, Savelivka, Monastyrys'ka raion, Ternopil's'ka oblast) . We believe that Hrynko was born to Emilian (Omelian) and Paulina DRON, and that they were probably Greek Catholic. Hrynko emigrated to Canada in 1910.

We have searched LDS but cannot locate metrical records for the village itself. Does anyone know where we might find the metrical records for Sawaluski/Savelivka, and/or if they were grouped with another nearby parish (possibly Kovalivka, Olesha, or Hryhoriv)? Additional information about the history of the village or other sources of information would also be welcome.

    Regards,

    Richard

Hamlet was called Sawaluski until 1947 and today is ̦ > = Savelivka > Monastyrskij raion. Lenius lists both RC and GC parishes in Kowalowka/Kowalivka.

It was founded in 1450 and today w/a population of appx 250 is clustered w/ selo Olesha. Back before 1802 it belonged to Halycz adm district/powiat > Stanislawow.

On Monastyrskiy site there is a Medical Doctor, Dr. Stefan Dudiak in US - originally from Savelivka , who claims that there was a GC church (Holy John the Baptist) in village built in 1878.

FYI GC Church in Kowalivka was burned down!

Your friend will likely need Ihor Voronchak's help...
