  • Curious about number meaning on death records

I'm looking at Polish archives for my grandmother family. In the birth files if a child passes away there is numbers, I cannot figure out the meaning. Time of day doesn't seem correct. The last 3 numbers are the year i do believe.
    Anyone have an idea?
    thanks a bunch

sorry it would not let me send as a jpeg file so here is the link.

    Hi Carolyn,

The numbers represent the day and month of the death, followed by the 3-digit year. Example: 22/8 894 would be August 22, 1894. You may also be able to find the death record for the child based on that date.

You may also find this notation used in a marriage record to document the dates of birth/baptism for the bride and/or groom, especially if they were married in the same village where they were born.

    Regards,
