Below you will find a list of all official, public and national holidays in the country of Ukraine.

New Year’s Day
– 2015-01-01 to 2015-01-03

New Year’s Day in Ukraine is celebrated in much the same fashion as Christmas is in other countries. It features spruce trees, Ded Moroz (similar to Santa Claus) pulled in a horse-drawn troika, feasting, toasting, and wishes for the New Year. 2 and 3 January are considered festive days off for Ukrainians.

Orthodox Christmas
– 2015-01-07

Christmas Eve celebrations in Ukraine include the tradition of “Holy Supper” which begins when the first stars show in the sky. Carols are sung and Svyatyi Mykolai is said to bring gifts for the children.

International Women’s Day
– 2015-03-08

This day is a celebration of women’s social, economic and political achievements, honoring all women in the country.

Orthodox Easter
– 2015-04-13

Easter is a very important religious holiday in Ukraine. Following a period of lent, various foods are prepared for Easter and the house is thoroughly cleaned. A renowned feature of Ukraine’s Easter is the pysanky – raw eggs that have been carefully decorated. In the early hours of the morning the Easter basket is blessed, which is followed by feasting.

National Labor Days
– 2015-05-01 and 2015-05-04

Labor Day is celebrated throughout the world, honoring the achievements of workers. It is also considered the beginning of spring.

Victory Day
– 2015-05-11

Also known as Memorial Day in the Lviv Oblast, Victory Day commemorates the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Orthodox Pentecost
– 2015-06-01

Referred to as Triytsia this Christian holiday memorializes the pouring out of Holy Spirit on the Apostles of Jesus Christ.

Constitution Day
– 2015-06-29

On 28 June 1996 the Constitution of Independent Ukraine was ratified. The day is celebrated with fireworks and concerts.

Independence Day
– 2015-08-24

Ukraine’s parliament adopted the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine on 24 August 1991. Thus Ukraine became a democratic and independent state – an event which is commemorated each year.
