So, it's Victory Day. Soviets beat the Nazis. Germany surrenders. Stalin takes over the world. And to commemorate the grand occasion we, ha ha, this is funny, we do the jitterbug to American music. I guess the USA did win the Cold War, but it seemed quite ironic that the last dance before the military review was so blatantly American.

The city probably existed as a commercial centre as early as the 5th century. A Slavic settlement on the great trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, Kiev was a tributary of the Khazars, until seized by the Varangians (Vikings) in the mid-9th century. Under Varangians rule, the city became a capital of the Rus', the first East Slavic state. Roman Kumlyk from Ukraine Plays Tiny Violin [01:04]
Roman Kumlyk from Verkhovyna, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast', western Ukraine, plays mountain music of Ukrainian Carpathians on a tiny violin. Roman is an owner and a guide of his private Museum of Musical Instruments and Hutsuls Lifestyle. He told us, the visitors of his Museum, a story that such little violins were made in Carpathian Mountains for kids to learn how to play a violin. I took this video in my trip to Ukraine in 2011
