Ukraine and Istanbul - Part 7 [14:16]
In July, 2011, Pat and I flew to Kiev, Ukraine, and boarded the Viking Lomonosov for a 12-day cruise on the Dnieper River to the Black Sea; then we flew to Istanbul, Turkey, for four days. In this video, we tour the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, commonly known as the Blue Mosque, built between 1609--1616. Then we visit the sixth century Hagia Sophia, for 1000 years the world's largest church. In 1453 it was converted to a mosque, with minarets added. In 1935 it became a museum. We also window shop in the Grand Bazaar. That evening we go to a local restaurant for dinner. The next day we tour the Topkapi Palace, the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (1465-1856) of their 624-year reign.
