Podilski Tovtry National Park
In 1996 the Podil’ski Tovtry National Park was initiated and formed with its unique and rigid landscapes. The National Park over time has become very well-know and specifically renowned for the beautiful Tovtorovyi Ridge of Podillya, which can be seen from a variety of perspectives throughout the territory within the awe-inspiring Podil’ski Tovtry National Park. Like most of the parks in Ukraine, there is always an institution formed to control and research different aspects of the area. In the case of the Podil’ski Tovtry National Park they are looked after by the Ministry of Ecology and Nature Resources.
It is through this unassuming landscape that you begin to unearth the many characteristics that build the Podil’ski Tovtry National Park, with its historical remains of the fascinating and age-defying tortone barrier reef. Interestingly, it is isolated to this area and cannot to be found anywhere else in the whole of the Eastern Europe, a phenomenon in its own right. There are also many other fascinating geological formations which can be found in this particular area, such as the canyons of the magnificent Dniester River, the tranquil lakes and the many vast caves such as the Atlantida, which have always created curiosity from scientist to visitor alike. With some of the lovely reserves in Ukraine, the Podil’ski Tovtry National Park has an abundance of vegetation which covers a vast array of scenic surroundings, from the light and playful meadows to the patches of grasslands, which contain a small amount of Stipa spp., to the old oak and beach forests and to the mixed hornbeam-oak-ash.
The reserve has quite a range of flora, with up to an amazing 1700 plant species within the park itself to which sixty of them have been placed in the listings recorded in the Red Book. In its way, the Podil’ski Tovtry National Park changes its beauty from the natural surroundings, but brings to life in a time-defying way the wonderful cultures, many of which lay within the National Park. These wise and aged historical monuments that have carved a way of life since their beginnings in times past have created a past that has no end, like the magnificent and mysterious Kam’yanets-Podil’skyi and its gracious fortress. This intriguing Park also holds some of the most beautiful natural mineral water springs and health resorts such as the ‘Myrgorods’ka' and the ‘Naftusya’.
