hi, everyone!
how do you do? hope that everything is fine in all the aspects of your life... My name is Marina, i am a native Ukrainian citizen, born and brought here and i would like to brief you on Ukraine. hi, Paulie, hope you will be reading this message too, because it is basically for you. there is nothing really special you should be warned about before visiting Ukraine. it is a very friendly and beautiful country! everyone who has ever been here at least once will agree to this. people are very friendly and once you have at least one friend who is a permanent citizen of this or that city(esp. if you are going to visit your relatives) be sure that your lunch or dinner is guaranteed. this is the nature of our ukrainian people, we just can't see anyone starving or having nowhere to go to eat, whatsoever... but make sure that (f you have this kind of invitations) you bring something with you as a small gift for the hostess or host (even a bar of chocolate would do or a bouqet of flowers), you would be treated as a personal friend of the family. we are not greedy. it would be just a sign of your good manners. take different kind of clothes: casual and formal and a lot of shoes, as there is transport problem here, so a lot of time you will have to walk. then it depends on which city you are going to visit and what is the purpose of your visit: study, exhibition, relatives, business...for all these occasions there is different way of dressing and various accessories you have to take with you. it all depends...but yes there is something common that you always take to the trips, just take your travel kit with you with all the medicines you like and a bag of favourite snacks, and magazines or newspapers.. don't think that you are going to see some cave people that don't know anything and no way you should think that we have bears walking around the streets, it is a modern country, highly developed and highly priced, so take a lot of fast (canned)food with you (like tuna fish or preserved sausages), anything that might help you during your adaptation to prices and food and water, take some drinking water as weel, it might help for the first time. when you go to currency exhange make sure that you check a couple of them before you finally change your "green" ones to our "coloured"ones, (different "exchanges"- different rates) and make sure to get coins change with you at all the times (our WCs are paid). weather can be quite warm this time, but again it depends upon the city, it could be colder in Kiev and warmer in Kherson, so make sure to have a sweater and a pair of light trousers and a thin shirt. if you need any more comments, please feel free to contact me on marina_555@hotmail.com or marina_555@ukraine.com you would be mostly welcome. thanks a lot for reading this. bye-bye. Regards, Marina |

Dear Cheraboo,
thank you for your comments. i am glad if you find this information about Ukraine helpful. i am sorry to say that i don't know much about the adoption of children for the foreigners. what i do know is what our authourities require for my friends living abroad (ukrainian wife and foreign husband, the wife has a baby from the first marriage). they need a salary and a health certificate of the "new" husband, the certificate of good living conditions, the cert-te that he has no more children or other wife (all should be approved by the consulates of both countries), and the cert-te from the first husband that he doesn't mind for his child to be adopted. this is the only thing that i know about this. i think that for you it will be different. anyway i hope i gave you some idea. i think you should contact our embassy to find out more details. please let me know if you need some more information. best regards, marina |

Dear Marina
I meant to write this a few days ago, but never had the chance. I find your information to be very good. I myself am Ukrainian... living in Canada. I was adopted by a family in Canada but they had come from the Ukraine (Lviv and Ternopol). I love coming here to this site to talk to other ukrainians especially if they are in the Ukraine. Anyways nice to talk to you.. ------------------ [This message has been edited by admin (edited 04 April 2000).] |
