According to what I found on the Net, if you are applying for a Ukraine visa for a stay of three months or longer, you have to show them a Hiv-negative certificate. However, one site said it was for six months or longer, not three. And on the official Ukraine consulate web page, I couldn't find any mention of this being required at all.

Does anyone know the details about this requirement? Like, what specific tests must be done (there are many), how long ago they must have been done, where they must have been done, which labs are acceptable and which are not, and details about how the certificate must be written, translated, and notarized, and by whom?

I'd like to get a visa for at least six months. Incidentally, if you get an extension on a visa inside Ukraine, how long can you extend it for and how much does it cost?

Thanks for your help.

If you want help, you might at least tell us where you are going, how long you intend to stay, what you will do while you are there, and at the very least what nationallity you are and what kind of passport you have. Then you may find someone here to help you.

Well, I don't see how that information makes any difference. I'm American. I am still thinking about where in Ukraine I want to go. I will stay for probably six months, maybe longer. It's a tourism trip.

Surely someone here has encountered this requirement before and can give more info? Or is this not a requirement and I have received wrong info?

Thanks.

Radd, How graciously you accept advice.

If you do not realize that there is a major diference in traveling as a US citizen with a US passport, and traveling as a Ziare citizen with a Congo passport, then you have much to learn about international travel. Your nationality and the kind of passport you carry has much to do with the visa requirements for almost all countries.
For example a Russian citizen does not need a visa for the Ukraine, you do !!!
The visa requirements are not the same if you are going to study (EG SCHOOL) or if you are going as a tourist, or in deed on business. I do not travel on a US passport (although I have that option) so the requirements for you are a little diferent for you than me.
For you :- It is normal for the Ukraine embassy to issue a visa valid for six months, I have not tried for any longer period but I believe it is posible. All you ned do is fill out the application found at "ukremb.com" and mail it in with the required fees (I think $110). As a US citizen you must also include proof of medical insurance covering you for the period you will be in the Ukraine. As of today a neg HIV test result is not required. The Ukraine (wisely) may require it in the future, who knows.

Len.

Radd...visa info

I'm American and have just gotten my visa for Ukraine, I live in Ireland and did it throught the Consulate in Scotland. I was charged a total of $75 including postage and Sterling bank draft. My visa is a Multi-entry and valid for 4 years (I did not request that length, so I assume its standard). I was told the cost was the same for single, double, or multi-entry. My visa is classified as a Scientific, I think as i applied for the reason of attending a conference and tourism. I only filled out the application and did not provide any other information. Hope that helps you. But I say it may vary depending on what embasy you apply through on the cost. It is best to call them first and clarify your questions...they may be more generous with you...niceness always pays. Believe me this is much easier and cheaper than a Russian Visa!
