Question Prepaid GSM SIM card

Does anyone have info on how easy it is to get a prepaid or a temp SIM card in Ukraine (Kiev, and Odessa) for a tri-band GSM cell phone? And how expensive is it?

Any info will be appreciated!

Not a problem

In large cities (which Kyiv and Odesa undoubtedly are) these cards are sold nearly at each corner.

I am not sure about tri-band, however. I believe our operators work with dual band GSM standard (900/1800).

Look out for there ads:

Operator - Kyivstar GSM

Cost - UAH 160 (under $30), of them UAH 95 for SIM card and UAH 65 pre-paid for service, and the account may be reimbursed later using scretch cards (UAH 50, 100, etc.)

or

Operator - Ukrainian Mobile Communications (UMC)

Cost - UAH 99, but I am not sure how much pre-paid service is included.

If you are ONLY interested in using this phone in Kyiv and Odesa, you may also consider smaller operators:

But I do not know much about their prices as they have limited coverage and therefore aren't used in my area.

Hope that helps.

ACE & BASE

ACE & BASE recharge cards are available at most convenience stores, tobacco shops and petrol stations throughout Ukraine. They may be purchased in 50 UAH (US$9.50), 100 UAH (US$20.00) or 300 UAH (US$49.50) denominations.

The Ukrainian domestic rates (per minute) for incoming or outgoing calls using these cards are as follows:

Time Period_____________Mon-Fri______W/E & Holidays____

8:00 AM – 6:00 PM..........US $0.48..............US $0.24

6:00 PM – 10:00 PM.........US $0.24..............US $0.24

10:00 PM – 8:00 AM.........US $0.15..............US $0.15

The international rates (per minute) will range anywhere from $0.85 to $2.00 USD, depending on where you're calling (example: $0.90 per min. to call E. Europe, $2.00 per min. to call the U.S.)

I have a GSM tri-band phone, Motorola V6 series. I like it a lot. Sure comes in handy when you're over there!

Best of luck in your travels!

Does anyone know if it is possible to get these via the web? Or is it possible to top-up the pre-pay cards from the web with a credit card?
