Question Winter in Ukraine

So, can anyone reccomend the best areas in Ukraine to go for winter fun, like skiing, snowboarding, and the like? I assume the Carpathian mountains are some of the prime candidates.

What brought this to mind was I just saw the movie, "Jackie Chan's First Strike." The first 1/3rd of the movie was filmed in Ukraine, and it was quite fun to see what Yalta looked like in winter after I had just been there this June! After that sequence, Jackie Chan goes to what looks like a winter skiing resort area allegedly in Ukraine, but I have no idea where it is.

If anyone could provide a link or address for more information or a nice resort, that would be dobry...

Dzien dobry Terrier!

Hi Terrier,

I am writing from Poland, Warszawa
I visited a Polish part of Carpathians this summer (Bieszczady mountains) and if the Ukrainian part is equally beautiful, I would be the first to go there next year.
In fact it is still not so easy and too expensive for us Poles to travel there. It is a bit ridiculous as generally we are significantly better off than our Eastern neighbours. Poland has created thousands of inexpensive tourist places lately (they are cheap even to us, not to say about Westerners). Unfortunately Poles are presently fascinated so much with the mediterranean countries that the hungry domestic tourist industry is in trouble. Unfortunately, these sun lovers bring a skin cancer from time to time from their lovely trips, because our skin not accustomed to so much intensive sunlight exposure.
In the meantime, I found something that will hopefully be helpful for you.

(a Polish version of this website is available now, and it is a sign they they started to think logically)

If you have some time, you could also visit the Polish part of Carpathians (or maybe you've done it before).

Maybe some of my explanations for Bunky in a neighbouring thread FIVE DAYS might be of any help?

Regards from Warszawa (Warsaw)

Re: Re: Winter in Ukraine

Thanks Zbyszek, those links are a good place to start. I was looking over your posts on the other thread you mentioned, and Poland appears quite appealing right now! My Ukrainian friend would have no problem getting there, and the money saved on lodging would more than compensate for the insignificant cost of going an extra 60 or 70 km. Are there many facilities for skiing and the like in the Polish Carpathian mountains?

Skiing in PL

This seems to be quite instructive:

I do not know much about conditions, they are surely less professional than in Austria, but the locals do a lot in this respect.
Regards (it is surprisingly warm in PL now, 12 deg.C)

The following info is in .pdf format

Bieszczady are wild and beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And they are so close to PL-UA border.
