Hello Hanja!
I shall be travelling by train/bus, so if it takes 29 hours (!) to Simferopol I suppose that it is not a good idea to travel so far with only 5 days. Anyway, it will be my first visit to the Ukraine and I’d like only to have an idea of the life there. I will have many opportunities to visit again as I need only 2 days to get to the Ukraine from my home. The next time, I can travel by “tourist visa” instead. I’ve been to Przemysl in Poland. I like it very much and I’ll probably go there first, so it will be simple to get to L’vov from there. You are probably right about the Carpathians so I should start reading about what is nice there to see. I enjoy mostly small towns and architecture. Are there pretty villages in the Carpathians? Thank you very much for your help. Bunky |

Hello Sevastopol!
Yes. Five days is not very much time. I don’t like to travel by aeroplane as one sees nothing along the way so I suppose that I’ll confine myself to the western region of the Ukraine this time. I live only 2 days by road from the Ukraine so I will have many opportunities to visit the Krim with a longer visa, perhaps again next summer. Thank you very much for your assistance. five days
Bunky,
29 hours = is based on own experience left Lwiw by train on tuesday evening 23.30 and arrived in Dzankiw 3.00 of thuersday morning were the people who travelled further till Simferopel arrived there around 5.00 o'clock. - we left on fridaymorning 9.00 Simferopel and arrived in Lwiw saterday around 12.00 o'clock. That's is why I said try to do West-Ukraine first. When I am in the carpathians I stay always in a little bases near the town named Slawsk but if you know people in Lwiw than they certainly will help you to visit Carpathians. Slawsk you can locate on the map if you take the road from Lwiw to Uzhorod - You have to pass Stryj than go more down and to the right of the road. Zbyszek has given in the threath "travel tips" a tip for a very nice place to stay near Przemysl if you are travelling by car and need to stay overnight in Poland before crossing the border. When are you going to ukraine in wintertime or next year spring or summer - keep in mind that winter can be very hard in ukraine - do not know were you live and what your experience is, with weather like ice and snow. hope to have helped you. Hello Hanja!
Yes, I’m sure you’re right. I shall travel only around West-Ukraine. If I enjoy it, I shall return again probably in Spring or Summer and travel to the East of Ukraine. I shall sleep one night at the Youth Hostel in Przemysl, where I stayed the last time I was in Poland. Do you know Przemysl? It is very beautiful. The only problem I have is trying to buy bus and rail tickets to go there. I have tried, and tried, and tried, and tried, and tried to pronounce the name ”Przemysl” but no-one can understand me! Yes, I’m sure that the Ukraine is cold in winter. You are living where? I’m from Sweden so I’m not a stranger to cold. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it either. Anyway, I don’t want to wait. I want to go to the Ukraine soon! Is Slawsk a pretty town? Zbyszek? I shall try to find it in the travel tips ”thread”. Thank you again for your friendly help! Yours, "Bunky" |

visit
Bunky,
maybe a solution if your coming from Sweden you will pass through Warsaw - trainticket from Warsaw to Lwiw would be something I assume. If you were traveling from Germany there are buscompanies that are going from there till Lwiw from there - Poland I do not know. If you need a hand let me know or put it in the openboard as a treath so maybe somebody who lives in Poland can help you. People are very helpfull here! I live in belgium and I like very much the wintertime especially when you can walk in the snow. We do not have that often snow here. Slawsk is a very little town but you have there some bases -this is you can call it a motel or hotel very clean and friendly. Hope have helped you with this information. Hanja |
