By the above- mentioned price range, I assume that you are looking for a private home accomodation... Most Odessa hotels are around $45-$90/night. I'll try to find something for you, but it's rare to even find a private family who would take a foreigner for THIS CHEAP, especially in the historical part of Odessa. I'm glad that you have a bit of time on your hands, have you already received your Visa?

Odessa is very popular with American and Canadian tourists
But I actually managed to pay only $20 per night at the Black Sea hotel, because I speak Russian and asked for the cheapest room. The reception lady assumed that I was a local Ukrainian from another town so gave me a $20 price, I said that it's great, I'll take the room for 2 weeks and then showed my Canadian passport! LOL
![]() ![]() ![]() Boy, she was not ammused, but she couldn't go back on her word and change the price to $70/night like she charges Canadians and Americans.Irina

Ukraine does not allow dual citizenship, so I chose to travel with a Canadian passport.
Most of my relatives are in Canada and many more are about to emmigrate, so basically it's wiser to live close to my kin.

May be there are student hostels in Odessa
Sorry for interrupting you, but I travel through Poland and abroad from time to time and I found the net of the Youth Hostels to be the cheapest and not the worst opportunity to spend several nights without a hole in your pocket.
Examples: Bled (Slovenia) - wonderful hostel, being almost a hotel at a price of $15 per night. They always placed us in a separate room when I travelled with my family. Montangana near Padva, Venice(Italy) - decent conditions at a price of $ 15. (Montagnana Youth Hostel is a wonderful location in an ancient tower). Pula (Croatia) $15 for a decent family room, 100 m away from a sea shore. Roma - $20. Liege (Belgium) - the same range of prices for good quality accomodation. Cracow (Poland) - $10 for a good quality room, $5 for a room shared by several persons. The Intn'l Hostelling Card is welcome in the most of places but it is not always mandatory. I really do not know if there is a Ukrainian net of such Hostels. Irinka, maybe you know something about it. It would be of interest for me also (I am determined to speak Russian in exchange for a lower rate, LOL). BTW, Irinka are you sure there are still two hotel rate levels, one for foreigners and the other for the locals in Ukraine? That would be strange. It disappeared in Poland more than 10 years ago. |

Maybe something across the border would be helpful if you are going to Lviv
I moved the information on the Lviv surroundings to another thread, named First time in Ukraine
