Greetings

I will be in Kiev from 29/8-20/9. I'm wondering if per chance there is an individual that is familiar with the city and surrounds, and willing to accompany me/or give directions to places of interest whilst I'm there. Responses (if any??)would be appreciated. Can't wait to get there as Ukraine sounds like a lost jewel.

Kindest regards
Stella

Stella- congratulations on your trip to Kyiv. I hope it is very pleasant and the weather co-operates. Have you looked at going to Lviv as well? Lviv truly fits the term 'lost jewel' because it really belongs on the same page as Vienna, Prague and other such cultural cities.

You may know this already, but Lviv is a protected zone by the UN because of its architecture. Lviv was one of the very few cities of Europe that was spared severe bombing of WWII. My Ukrainian teacher (who lived there for 3 years) said there are some buildings from 12th century (??? - amazing as I don't quite believe it myself). But if you ask most who have been there, will speak highly of it. A lot of the citizens there carry a sense of pride with them, even if they seem to say "our city is better!". But for the most part it is true- it is the cultural capital of Ukraine!

Enjoy your trip!

Jetset-thank you for replying. I will be based in Kiev and basically left to my own devices during the day as I'm staying with a working friend. So my excursions will be limited to the daytime unless I can find a suitable partner to travel longer distances (the risk factor is higher for female travelling alone in foreign country) And yes by all indications Lviv is a must see destination. The architecture you mentioned is actually the type of sightseeing I had in mind or anthing of historical content for that matter. Hopefully I'll find someone in the next 3 months, it would be a shame to travel so far and miss visiting these 'jewels'.

Thanks again....ciao
Stella

PS You took the thoughts out of my mind in regards to ignoring certain members....there's no point in dignifying some remarks with responses and it only perpetuates more antagonism!
