HI,
I would like to ask all of you, what is your favourite kind of travelling around the country or world. Is it by train or airplane or ocean/sea linecruiser, or is it car? Or maybe you like to go jogging with the rucksack to the forest? Where have you travelled? What was your most interesting, thrilling tour that gave you maximum of emotions? How long ago was it? What are you planning for the summer? Any remarks will be appreciated |

Hi, Marina.
I was waiting for topic like this. My favorite kind of travelling is by train. Espesially if it's a long trip like two or three days, and you don't have to worry about anything for those couple of days. And old ukrainian men and women on the small railroad stations are trying to sell you all the tasty staff, homemade fried fish, salads, wine, cakes, smoked chicken, dried fish (taranka), mashed potatoes, pel'meni. And you can solve crossword puzzles with your roommates all day long. And then at night you sometimes wake up and can't fall back asleep, you just look in the window at the fields, at the trees, at the houses with lights in their windows. And you look and look, until train finally comes to stop at some station where there's noise and rush and everybody's busy, and old people are trying to sell delicious stuff again. You walk out of the train, have a cigarette, breethe fresh air and then go back to sleep until the next morning. I know there are faster and more comfortable ways of travelling, but for me there's only train. '''''Snova poyezd '''''I bliznetsy ral'sy kuda-to vedut. '''''Snova poyezd '''''Predpolagayu opjat' ne zasnu '''''Snova poyezd '''''Vchera byl na sever, segodnya na yug '''''Snova poyezd '''''Zamknutyy krug These are the words from one song by "Chizh". It is called "Snova poyezd". By the way Marina, what is your favorite kind of travelling? PS:This time I have to agree with StasUA- Good Topic. |

Hello Marina,
This will tell you about my favorite way of traveling and also my plans for next summer. A couple of years ago I purchased a Travel Trailer. It is 9 meters long and 3 meters wide. I pull the trailer with a Pick Up truck. On top of my truck is a 4 meter long canoe. Last summer 4 of us went on a month long trip from Texas to Colorado and back. The USA has wonderful camping parks. You can hook up your trailer to Electricity, Water and Sewer, all the comforts of home, but you are in the middle of a forest, next to a lake or river. At least once per month, I take a long weekend and go camping. I leave on Wednesday morning and return on Sunday night. This is my favorite way of traveling as of late. Next summer, my sister and her family and my family will meet for two weeks at Konigsee near Bechtesgaden, Germany. From there we will travel to Lake Balaton in Hungary for two weeks. After Lake Balaton a group of 6-8 people will travel to Ternopil, in Ukraine, to visit the grave of the Uncle of my wife. He was buried in Zboriv in 1944. Since Ukraine is a FREE COUNTRY, we feel that it is time to go there and pay our final respect. We will be in Ternopil 3-4 days. We will travel by train from Budapest to Ternopil and back. We were told not to travel by automobile. From Budapest, back to the USA and back to work. What do you think? What would you do? Let me hear from all of you. |

It's a good advise not to travel in your car. If you go by train it's very romantic and makes a lot of memories.(on the trains there are a lot of Gypsies, romantic, but watch out for your stuff)

I do not find a train to be a best way to travel, especially more then for one night. Maybe it's romantic, but no bath, and what a smell, uh! And what is the smell from those Ukrainian babushkas and dedushkas selling everything on stations - they do not have facilities in their home ! Just imagine ! I'm not talking about Gypsies ! I'm not talking about so called chelnoks with thousands of bags in your compartment - terrible !
Uff, I see I'm too pessimistic today. I find some good features in car travelling- and the most important is - absolute freedom in choosing the direction to go. Of course, if You are not a driver in this car. Regards, Irina |

Hey Irina and everybody else. I love the smell of train, bubushkas, dedushkas, and especially Gypsies.I made a lot of Gypsie friends on trains, and trust me, if you are helping them, they won't touch you. Well, I look like a Gypsy myself, so maybe that's why.(By the way, Gypsie guys are the most beautiful) I just love to lay down on those sheets, no matter how stinky they are, and look outside on endless grasslands.
Didn't you ever hear Verka Serduchka? I don't know, how about you guys, but romantic for me it's above all the sanitary stuff, of course, without extremism. |
