Hi there!
Well, I know that this is not a Polish site! But, since I was uncapable of finding Poland.com or anything like that, I decided to be brave and post my message here! Since it always seems like a couple of Poles are always hanging around this web site!

Here is my dilema. I'm going on vacation to Warsaw this May, for about 5 days!!! Yupie! I'm really exsited! I would like to hear some recomendations, if possible, on what to see(in terms of historical and beautiful places), what are good places to eat, what are some good night-clubs(to entertain my young soul) etc, etc..

Any advise would be appresiated!

Hi Lina,

First thing you will see in Warsaw is a monumental building called The Palace of Culture. It's the Eifel tower of Warsaw and you can always see it where ever you are. It's a good guide when you try to find your way back to the hotel. There is also a very big fleemarket next to this monument. Close to the center of Warsaw there is an area called "Stare Miasto" - The Old City. It's a great place with lots of restaurants, happy people, old buildings and atmosphere. Almost like a Piazza in Rome. I think I have had the best meal in my life here.

Thumbs up

Thanks a bunch! I'll check these places out! Plus, I'm going to rent an apartment in the Old City, so that sounds like a very good news to me! Thanks!

Okay Lina!

As a Polish countryman! I suggest you not even attempt visiting the Stalinist Palace of Culture! Trust me it's not worth it! Here's a good list of good things that are really worth visiting...It's the only building in the whole city that doesn't fit in!

First Tip: When you arrive at the airport! Whatever you do! Do not take the Taxi!!!! The cab drivers are mostly very greedy!! Take the bus! It should take you around to the Downtown.

Warsaw was completely destroyed in the Second World War, the only good thing the communists did in Poland was completely rebuilt. From old photographs and blue prints!

First of all you should start your trip in the Stare Miasto (Old Town) you should visit the royal castle where you will be surrounded by old (kamienice) buildings.

There are alot of Statues around Warsaw, there is one in fact that is has a very interesting story behind it. During the Nazi occupation, a group of Armia Krajowa soldiers came at night to the statue of Nicholas Copernicus. The Krauts had changed the sign...it read that Copernicus was a German...pretty funny, but complete bologny. SO this group changed the sign back to the original one!

There's alot of other good sites. You should visit the Cross Church and other famous churches around the Old Town area.

After that, you should go to the Park Sasski a beautiful park where the monument to the Uknown soldier also is found. You will see a group of Polish Royal Gaurds standing like lead soldiers, I had a picture done beside one!

THE one place you must not miss is the Lazienki Palace! The most beautiful Bathhouse of Europe, build by the last succesful King of Poland Jan III Sobieski. It's beautiful! The palace is open from 9-4pm. So I would spend my time wisely to visit the insides!

REMEMBER do not take any pictures while inside churches, cathedrals, palaces, or any other historical landmarks! No Videocameras allowed inside either!

In the back of the Lazienki palace, the big statue commemorating Frederik Chopin, the Polish composer.

NOTE: He was born in Poland, so please stop b.s-ing yourself into believing he was a stupid frog!

Summer concerts are very popular! I've been to one! They are very interesting, very enjoyable, and very elite! Only in the summer commemorating to Chopin!

The palace of culture is not worth seeing since it's a hell of an ugly piece of architecture. The Polish Government were planning to destroy it but lack of funding, caused the crummy building to stay!

Also visit Wilanow! Where a palace of Jan III Sobieski is found! It's beautiful outside and inside! Polands capitol is one of the most beautiful in Europe! Personally I think the Krauts should pay for the destruction they caused!

An important note! Don't hang around the Main Train Station! There's too many Gypsy beggers! There's *Military Police around but they aren't likely to do much!

*The reason for them is...since many soldiers on their way back or from Garrisons try to commit suicide, the Military Police is there to stop them! Also if any soldier runaways are believed to be in the area!

There's other reminders! You should go around the city from 8am - 7pm, do not go any earlier or any later then that! it' for your personal security! There's tons of weirdos, rapists, thiefs hanging around the streets! DOn't take taxis! They tend to rip you off!

I'll post some later! And most of all! Just Have Fun!
Take Care & Watch Yourself!

I appreciate your input P4L. I've also bought a travel guide on Warsaw! There are some pictures of places you described here. They do look beautiful! I'm going to pray for weather being nice and sunny during my visit, so I can do a lot of sightseeing! Also thanks for "travel safety" tips. It's amaizing, you also've got gypsies in Poland, just like we do in Ukraine!
