Sevastopol???
Hi everyone,
I just came across this forum and thought I'd see if I couldn't get some addvice on staying in Savastopol, ok so firstly, why there? Well why not and it's by the sea. I'm a UK national and so am eligable for the 90 day visa, but if I wanted to extend it how difficult is that to do and would I need to do it before arriving in the Ukraine or can I do it once there? Also I notice everytime I try to search for apartments/houses for rent I only seem to be able to find ones that charge nightly, so any addvice on how best to locate an apartment and the monthly rents would be great. I plan on driving over so as I have a car once there so any general addvice and what's involved would be great and finally I'm just have to bring my dog with me being mans best friend and all that, so once again any addvice on what's involved would be great. Thanks, Alastair |

Sevastopol
Hello Alastair,
When are you going to come to Sevastopol? For how long? I'm asking because all people who rent apartments prefer to rent them by daily rate till the end of September. Even later it's not easy to find the monthly rents less than for an year. I think you have to be ready to stay for a week or two paying daily rent and look for another apartment you can rent for longer period. About Visa. As UK citizen you don't need Visa if you stay up to 90 days. If you want to stay longer, you have to obtain Visa in UA consulate. You can't extend your visa being in Ukraine - you have to go to another country. There is another way and it could works for you because you have a car. You have to drive across border of Ukraine for a few days. You can be back for next 90 days then. The closest border to Sevastopol is in Kerch, border with Russia. BUT you have to have Russian Visa to get there. So you have to drive to Odessa and Rumania, Bolgaria or Moldova then. Anyway it could be nice journey across the country. If you want to get full impression about Ukraine drive through Carpathian mountains to Poland/Slovakia. Western Ukraine is VERY beautiful, people are VERY friendly and nice. I drove this way several times and I wish I could do it again soon. About your dog. If you have all necessary veterinary documents it will not be a problem at Custom's check point. No one else will ever ask you about your dog. About driving. The roads in Ukraine in general good. However, you should better avoid to drive at night - you never know where to expect a deep hole on middle of highway. :-( You do need some Russian skills: there is NO single English speaking traffic policemen. At least I've never ever met one. :-( You must know: alcohol is ABSOLUTELY forbidden in Ukraine. You MUST NOT drink even a glass of beer, even a half of glass before drive. And of course you know there is right side drive in Ukraine... Speed limit in a town - 60 km/h, outside - 90 km/h. No turn right on red light with no green arrow on a traffic light! Feel free to e-mail me is you have more questions or need help with planing Regards, Eugene Around Crimea by car |
