They're not a friend then Local "friends" often volunteer to find a flat and make money this way. Especially if they're female "friends". When I rented a flat for others, it was quite a few times $30 for a two room flat in the very centre, once $25 for two room flat (you call them one bedroom) not so central but near the sea (Big Fntan area) and multiple times 25-30 for studio flats, all in the centre or right by the sea. For $50 it was a one bedroom flat right on Deribasovskaya.

Check the hotels I mentioned if you want. Hope you won't have to pay $50 per day. It's just unnecessary. On the other hand, it's nice to support your friend, especially if it's a lovely girl.

The first time I went to Simferopol, I found the airport hotel was only $8/night, with Air Conditioning it was $15/night. The pilots and other airline personnel stayed there. Nice place. The hotel (and the airport) were about 8 miles from the city. The only problem was getting back to the hotel in the evening, the buses were really crowded after 17:00, usually 100% full. You couldn't squeeze on. But you could get a taxi for 20-25 Hrivna.

That was 4-5 years ago. When I went there 3 years ago, prices had doubled for the hotel rooms. However, there was another hotel a short walk away from the airport hotel. They had rooms for $10/night. However, there were no rooms with A/C. Still, it was a decent, clean room.

The cheap rooms aren't going to be advertised on the internet, and the personnel may choose to speak Ukrainian/Russian. I would suggest you pay for a hotel for a couple of days and then spend some time to look around for something cheaper. If you're only going to stay a week it probably doesn't make much difference.
