This is interesting information.
Can you tell me how many parts the vehicles are broken down to. What sort of duty is paid on larger parts like the chasis and engine at the border. Is your stepson planning to get a new car from Korea, in part Kit form presumably. Or is he going to dismantle a second hand one? If the former, what brand is it and what is his source? Any further details appreciated. Thanks |

He's buying a new car from a dealership. The importers seem to bring them in as an incomplete car to save on the import duties. Hopefully passing the savings on to the consumer. But probably pocketing the difference.
I don't know how far the car has to be dismantled or how it could be titled once it's back together. This is only what I've been told over there. I'm a mechanic so I might give it a try once we get settled down over there in a few more years. Most just buy locally or in Europe then pay the import duties to bring them into Ukraine. IIRC you can bring a vehicle in for a max of 6 months w/o paying the duties. But with the current 90/180 day reg. about staying I wonder about parking a car in an adjacent country for the other 3 months. |

If your car stays more than 2 months inside Ukraine, than you can have big fines when driving it, and it can even be confiscated by the authorities, to prevent this you can ask for transit numbers which gives you the right to stay in Ukraine with your car for a period of 1 year. |
