Albatross, are you by any way connected with another user called Albatros?

Ukraine-Poland-Russia-Lithuania

I remember our old historic discussion debates Albatros used to visit and take part in. His argumentation used to be well balanced and gentle.

Hello Zbyszek

It's good to see you here and thank you for your kind words about Holland and my past contributions. How nice that you still remember Dutch words, including some "colorful language" .

Local curse words caused me some embarrassment while visiting Ukraine recently. I've acquired some Ukrainian and Russian curse words and sometimes use it in Holland when i'm frustrated about something. It's "safe" since nobody in my direct environment knows the meaning. But i have to admit it has grown into a (rather bad) habit now. And surely, when i visited a nice restaurant in Kyiv, i managed to bump my head, and spontaneously released a powerful local curseword. More then just a few people turned their heads.

The celebrations in Holland after the 1988 final were something special. I recall it was a really nice summer too. Do you still visit Holland occassionally?

All the best

Sorry Zbyszek, i missed the title in your previous post, but let me answer you directly now. Yes, both "Albatrosses" are one and the same person. At some point, my previous password failed.

with best regards
Axel

President Yushchenko visits Poland before EC 2012

Hi Albatros, I just guessed that you are one person basing on your earlier answers. President of Ukraine had a neighbour-like visit in Poland because the Euro Championship 2012 is every day closer and schedules are becoming tight for both countries. Poland and Ukraine go along very well now - there are no major problems. A long period of separation after centuries of common fate was productive for both countries.
Max Highlander gave an opinion that Poland and Holland are tedious countries. Nothing like that! It is impossible when football is under discussion. BTW, Do you remember Happy Gunner and his enthusiasm concerning the Arsenal FC? It does not have to be explained further, because 15 million people in the Netherlands (is it a good shot?) and almost 40 million in Poland generate uncountable reason for interest. Dutch landscape can be assessed as monotonous but it is not such when exploring it at depth. Poland has almost every kind of European landscape including high mountains + nice wooden architecture (Zakopane resort etc.) which Ukrainians just love (I know it very well).
Albatros, Holland means many things to me and the most of my experience is definitely positive. People in little towns are more hospitable than say in the Hague. I was located near VBA (you will know what I'm talking about). I sometimes worked very hard, I had many "overuren" but every single day there was interesting. I realized again and again that people in the world are basically the same. Their dreams are so universal.
Groetjes
Zbigniew

I last visited the Netherlands in the year 2001. I was in Maastricht and of course I visited the VBA again - what an exciting place!

The president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko is the one who initiated the OUN/UPA rehabilitation by his very own edict.

Now go and live with that.

May of 1993, Lviv city authorities banned the traditional Victory Day celebration (commemorating the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany). They declared that the Red Army was an occupying force in Ukraine and that it was the UPA fighters who were the true liberators.

UPA are heroes of Ukraine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extensively throughout Western Ukraine, there is one prominent feature in almost very village and town in the region: a symbolic grave ("mohyla") with a simple cross and sign stating that it was dedicated to the fallen known and unknown "never-forgotten"fighter for the freedom of Ukraine. In addition, there are monuments and street names in honor of Konovalets, Shukhevych, Bandera and other heroes. Also, bookstores now carry material outlining the true history of 20th century Ukraine. Despite decades of Soviet propaganda, the people remembered the truth about UPA and will not let it be forgotten.
