My 6th grade son is writing a cultural report on Ukraine. He is 1/2 Ukraine, but 3 generations removed from your country. He wishes to learn more. If anyone would please like to answer these questions and email us at: jbh5266@hotmail.com Your help would be greatly appreciated, as this info is not always found in old history books.
1. Which building, monuments, and types of homes symbolize this culture? 2. What images (religious or secular) cause an immediate response in every person? 3. How does the average person make a living? 4. How does the average person get around? Where are people moving? 5. What people, places, and things spark feelings of loyalty and patriotism? 6. What are the most important organizations? 7. Rate the average person's health and happiness (medical care, security, and opportunity) 8. What classes or professions have high and low status? 9. What behaviours are considered to be totally unacceptable? 10. What does the typical community look like? 11. How do people take care of cooking, washing clothes, shopping? 12. What would you consider to be typical of your culture (like chopsticks in China)? Thank you so much for any help you can give us. Nellie |

70 percent of Ukrainians are on the verge of poverty. Almost one million families survive on less than $10 USD per month. Hourly wages are fifteen times lower than the acceptable international measure of poverty. Although Ukraine is rich in culture, especially folk culture, it is a very poor country. Have your son use google.com or mamma.com to research his paper. http://www.google.com/aol/ Mamma Metasearch - The Mother of All Search Engines http://mamma.com/ Start w/link below !!! Hi,
For general information on any country the CIA World Factbook is a good source (geography, politics, demographics, etc.). For practical information targetted at travellers, Lonely Planet is quite good. Both of these are online and should turn up in a search on Google. Another idea is if your son writes to the Ukranian Embassy -they may have information about the Ukraine, lifestyle, culture, etc. Ciao JG |
