Much better to get an understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ... He so loved you that He died on the cross so you could have eternal life with Him and The Father in Heaven....

Lol nick. I totally respect what you are doing but the OP might be asking for personal as well as cultural reasons.
Hannia, he said Greek Orthodox already. Tea76, I'm Australian and grew up with many Greek Orthodox kids. Greek Orthodoxy is the original form of Russian Orthodoxy but both have changed since the old days. While this is an Australian link the info is quite accurate from a historical perspective so I would encourage you to take a look around and go from there. I would also advise that while many people use sites such as wikipedia for any serious information on such topics you should probably stay away from such sites. |

Tea,
I had the same question a few years ago. It was hard for me to know what religion I was because of translation. I knew what we did as a family but for the longest time I thought I was Orthodox because of the holidays and such. I mainly thought so because my school had many Egyptians and the traditions were very comparable. This won't be anything near a good explanation but here are just a few good notes. As Ukrainians, we celebrate Christmas in January. Around the world, Orthodox people do that. That part itself confused me at first. If you ever go to an Orthodox Church, you will notice they do things differently. Instead of using the name of the Pope, they mention someone else, I can't remember. In Orthodox Churches they also have curtains (i think) and during the sermon they close them at times so that you can't see what the priest is doing. The reason why I mention myself here is because I understand what Hannia ment and I you may want to make sure that he is Orthodox and not just celebrating some Orthodox holidays. |
