This is my new pet-interest. That doesn't mean I know alot, but some people I know have been going to talks about Muslim issues at a nearby University.

As far as I can make out, the 'Koran' is respectfull and righteous and what we associate with eg. fundamentalists is cultural; based on books by followers of Mohamad and subsequent prophets.

It is not what I originally had thought, but it seems logical. At least the way it was explained.

Hello,

What I know is that Islam is a growing and yet popular religion with roots in the middle east and has spread through many parts of Africa.
I think the religion has it's place like any other faith and is based on good principles in many cases.

That is a kinder way then I would put it. I originally thought of it as a copy of Judasism, based on regional differences. I figured the cultural context was leading shaping the whole movement. I am looking at the cultural context at the priphery these days.

"O' mankind, We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.
Indeed the most honourable of you in the sight of Allah is the one with the most piety"

(Surah Al-Hujjarat 49:13)

"And if you are in doubt as to what We have revealed to Our slave, then produce a chapter like it"
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:23)

To those who want to knwo the Qur'an here is a good site: http://al-sunnah.com/call_to_islam/a...this_book.html

Muhammad,

I have a question.

I was brought up as a Christian and I know little else about other religions.

As Christ gets a mention in the Qur'an I was hoping you could enlighten me as to your understanding of who he is. Not too idelogical - I'm not preaching.

Please keep your thoughts as objective as possible as this conversation could become quite hard-line and thus, (in my oppinion) anti-productive in no time.

Thanks,

Hi Phillip,

Jesus (PBUH) is a prophet just like:

Moses,Abraham,Noah,Jacob,Isaac,Ishmael,Yahya(John the babtist),..Peace be upon them all.

Phillip, have you heard of Ahmed Deedat? If so, take a look at this: http://home2.swipnet.se/~w-20479/Muhame.htm

If you have any questions, please let me know.
