Nick,
Your article is great and I can dig up a whole lot of articles that fit patterns of just the opposite - but I can't be bothered. Do you truly believe in god just because of fear of death? That is by far the worst argument I heard yet. Sure, we can all die but it has NOTHING to do with god. Aids, Cancer, accidents - you name it - nothing points to god. In fact, if your god is so all loving why did he kill those people? To prove that he can? Well, that is wrong on it's own. I am having a hard time replying to your article - it is dissapointing in so many ways. This thread was started because I found it disturbing that a girl can be rapen and then jailed and beated for her "crime" of being raped! Those who believe in god and preach to strangers annoy me now and then with their big words "God has a plan for you bla bla bla.... bla bla bla" (I usually tune out pretty quickly) - and my question was: what kind of a sick plan did he create for this girl? Your article just reiterates my point - either: 1. There is no god Or 2. There is god but he is one twisted sick .... *** |

I have absolutely no fear of death, in fact I await it with joy because I KNOW that when I die I will see my Creator.. who will you see when you die??.. everyone needs to know that after death there are only 2 places to go.. Heaven and hell are realities and hell is NOT a place to take lightly as if you are there it will be for eternity..an eternity of unbelievable pain and suffering the like of which no one on Earth has ever experienced.. it is a reality that can only be avoided by truly believing that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for you to cleanse you and to heal you.. if you won`t believe and accept that then you WILL go to hell and I know that may seem harsh and many Christians won`t like the directness of my words but time is short and it is time to be as direct as Jesus was in His teaching as we are really in the last days of this World and the return of Jesus is close..your eternal future is really in your hands and if you are right and when we die there is nothing then fine I have been believing in something that has been a crutch.. BUT if I am right as I know I am then I really would not want to be where you are.....

Oh Nick... If you believe in god so that you don't go to hell, then are you truly believing in god or just covering your arse? (pardon my French here).
Hell and Heaven have been created by a few very smart humans to control the masses. Fiction - nothing short of really good fiction. Once again, just because you don't know what happens after death - it is no reason to assume god exists. People used to believe that the Earth was flat and that there were hundreds of gods! Did all of them go to hell as well? Are you seriously telling me that NO ONE, not a single person before the Bible ever went to your heaven (since you already believe it exists, we'll assume that for this question)? Everyone is in hell? Thats more than silly, you'll have a better chance convincing me in the existence of Santa! Bottom line Nick, do you ever wonder why you are always told to believe and don't ask question? Take it at faith? The reason is simple - this is the only way to stop the questions that reveal the truth. Yeh, truth sucks, Nick, it sucks because we do not know what happens after death or how we came to be. I am pretty sure we just fade into big nothing... it doesn't mean we can't enjoy our brief stay here. Happy holidays Nick, don't waste your time with me. As long as you are happy in your beliefs go with that. I'll just mess things up for you, create unnecessary doubts. |

Nick,
I do have a few questions to you that I would like answered: 1. Do you believe that non-believers, the non-religious people can be good (as in, live a decent life, be nice to others etc.)? 2. Do you believe that God is all loving and all good? 3. Do you believe that only those who believe in God will go to heaven? Here is my problem: - A murderer who asked for forgiveness with god goes to heaven - A decent normal non-believer who lived a good life, sinned some but did a lot of good as well, goes to hell? Something doesn't add up, if your god is so all loving and fair, how can he let those who commit the greatest sins into heaven and those who live a good life still go to hell. Sound unfair. I bring this up is because of your argument that you wouldn't want to be in my shoes. And when I die, if I see god I'll tell him why I didn't believe in him. If he is fair and reasonable he'll understand, maybe even promote me to some cool angel position up there, no? Nick, everything will be OK as long as you are a good person. Believing doesn't make sense to me... but it doesn't make me right. All I am trying to say that your in ability to accept that you can be wrong is wrong on it's own. And like a vicious circle - if you are to believe in god to go to heaven you have to have no doubts, right? No way around it hehe... Happy holidays once again Nick. Always a pleasure to "battle it out" on the forum. |

V-G - greetings, I'm enjoying reading your tussle with Nick.
I have some comments, if I may. If we are genuinely going to consider believing in < any > 'God' - then we must define who and what He /She / It / is. The God whom Nick and I believe in is the God of the Bible. He is the God who created (let's not argue how) the entire universe (we are still finding out how broad that is) and who counts in millions and trillions as you and I do in cents and $ or £. He's the God who holds all that creation in his determined balance - and who is holding Yellowstone National Park down until he's ready to let it go (etc., etc.) He's the God who designed the elephants hide, the cat's eyes and the knat's willy !! And He did so simply by speaking it into being. By the simple, sheer power of His spoken Will. NOW: in consideration of a God of such sovereign majesty, such awesome power and committment, we don't go around asking human-style questions. We wait and listen. We listen to what HE HAS TO SAY - and then - with a sense of humility - we can ask some questions. You see V-G, God knows what our F.A.Q. are - and most of them will be answered while we genuinely listen. Very early on in man's existence, a Guy called JOB started asking God "WHY" and God answered as recorded in Job chapter 39 to end. It's a brilliant account of how God God basically says 'Who do you think you are - that you question ME??'. V-G, to summarize, don't try and put God into absolutely ANY man-made box. You can't. You and I cannot and never will understand Him - otherwise we would be at "god level" ourselves. We were created to worship Him in humility, not stand up and give Him our desired job description for His consideration !!!!!!! - or indeed to negotiate our eternal future based on a perceived level of our own 'goodness'. And to close your eyes and try and convince yourself that 'God does not exist' will simply mean you are blind and deaf by your own desire and you will fall into the pit by default. To understand God - you must listen and learn from Jesus. To understand Jesus, you must simply ask His Holy Spirit to come into your own spirit and open up the truths that he wants and waits to give you and TRUST HIM IMPLICITELY - and you are going to find that hard.. but that is all Nick and I have done - an we have neither, ever, looked back. Bst regards, Andrew
