I don't share your belief that Russians "hate " Ukrainians. It was a popular Russian sentiment, expressed in the press at the time of the collapse of the USSR, that Russia still had a "responsibility" to help Ukraine, and this resulted in continued shipments of oil to Kiev and Odessa, in particular.
