Image of a country can hang on one person to much degree
.. JednaBrew, reading your answer I am absolutely sure you're West Slavic.
One can interpret your nickname as OneBeer ha ha. Did you know that? [Jedna Brew means One Brow in Polish]. Greetings Kathy, surely Poland had more luck than Ukraine during communism. Young people in Poland do not fully understand what it meant to have such a spiritual guide like John Paul II in difficult times. It goes far beyond religious issue and I am sure if Ukraine had had such a person, its image could have been much more favourable. I read one article in a Polish Internet daily which made me sad. The author, a well-known feminist activist, prof. Sroda equated the JPII authority with that of one TV guru Jurek Owsiak who was much successful in rasing a lot of public money for Polish chidren's medical care. She stated that Owsiak does practically what JPII only said about. I can hardly imagine how stupid some professors can be. The giant commercial TV propaganda worked for Owsiak's cause. Owsiak is OK and I respect his activities but making him a messenger of true love does not make any sense. |

"Reading the posts of Svizzera and MichaelPB, it's not really clear what they describe".
I believe I have been very clear with my statements. I am Swiss and we always clear and precise with our communication and the words we say to people. We do not have issues with speaking with difficulty or stumbling on words. What else is there for me to say? I have said all the points. |

Human Development Index:
Ukraine: 0.786 points Switzerland: 0.955 Life Expectancy: Ukraine: 68.25 years Switzerland: 80.85 There is absolutely no point in comparing my Country with Ukraine, it just does not work at all. Ukraine after its independence from the Soviet Union has suffered from monumental negative consequences, and a reasonable amount of the consequences left over from that period are still very obvious. I cannot guess how long it would take for Ukraine to catch up with EU Standards or even how long to catch up with non EU Member States in Europe such as Norway, Switzerland. Probably without putting a figure in, it would many many decades. With Ukraine and all of its political quarels and instability, Ukraine seems to be drifting further away from the prospect of EU Membership. The EU has an obligation to support Ukraine as well through financial or poliitcal means. I believe the EU should use its power to assist in moving Ukraine towards the EU. Right now its looking very murky indeed. |
