Hi friends:
In an article run by al-jazeera website, a journalist -Lawrence Smallman says Western media are misrepresenting the Ukranian election crisis, figuring out Yushchenko represents democracy and Yanucovich dictatorship. He quotes an international relations expert, called Gokay; a researcher from a British university, who says that both the candidates have their roots in the same antidemocratic elite. Both represent the wealth, and would rule for the wealth exclusively. It is a geopolitic issue, according to that article. Ukraine is a strategic land, a gate to the caspian sea. Who eventually wield influence over Ukraine, not to mention dominion, will have access to the gas and oil route from Caspian Sea. Ukraine is a fundamental piece in the international chessboard. Therefore, why to consider Yushchenko as a good guy and Yanukovich the bad one? Behind Yushchenko lurks USA, who not long ago got Georgia. Some people say that in Goergia the western-backed president officially polled 96%, but nobody from western countries accused those polls were rigged. Regarding Ukraine I am afraid that the real winners -regardless who wins the election- will be a small section of the society: the powerful interest groups. This new chapter of the Cold War will have one loser: the inmense majority of people who works day after day. I am afraid who wins this new election, will be a puppet: either of the West or of Russia. I mistrust the way western media covered the event; including many of those progressives ones. I hope nobody feel hurt by my comments. I repeat. Mine are only questions and doubts. I wish the best for Ukraine. It deserves it.
