I’d like to say a few words about a controversial change to the Ukrainian Constitution. The most contentious element was to allow parliament to elect the president instead of the people. This led to opposition protests which blocked the work of parliament. Victor Yushchenko, now the leading opposition lawmaker, condemned the ruling, saying that opinions polls showed that only 10% of Ukrainians were ready to allow parliament to choose their future presidents. I’m sure the proposals provoked such violent protests by the opposition, because we have the country’s crisis. Our opposition express concern that the changes were being made to the constitution just nine months before a presidential election. It comes to that oppositional parties aren’t fully confident in their victory by civilized constitutional means during the coming elections. Why, they’ll be able to achieve their political aims easier using not only the universal support of the Ukrainian people but also in a legal way of parliament work.

It turned out that our people began to be disappointed in such oppositionists-popularizes. There’s some ground for it. At this moment as the most citizens consider, it’s more important for all of us to maintain the positive results achieved for the last period of time. And it’ll be possible only if the leading political forces get left back to power.

How should we know? Remember, our opposition dreams not about our ordinary citizens, but about power itself. Opposition parties lead the situation in Ukraine to “Georgian scenario”, because they realize that your “civilized constitutional means” are not useful in their struggle for power.
