>> UKRAINE is UKRAINE
>> Unify Ukraine

A large part of today's Ukraine is the Ukraine, i.e. a part of Russia. People there speak Russian, they read Russian literature, they listen to Russian pop music, they watch Russian TV and read Russian newspapers, they think of Kulikovo and Stalingrad (as well as of the Gulag) as of episodes in their history.

"Unify Ukraine"???

Does it mean that we, Ukrainians of the Ukraine, should switch to the Western Ukrainian, which, unfortunately, became the only official language of the state?

Does it mean that we should think of the Red Army as "occupation forces" and of the Western Ukrainians who collaborated with Germans as of a "liberation movement"??

Should we be happy about the border checks between Belgorod and Harkov???

I do NOT think so.

Dear Western Ukrainians, please do not speak for all the population of today's Ukraine.

I guess, you also understand that we are NOT one nation. The current situation when the East and South are culturally suppressed by the West is abnormal.

And we should COOPERATE to end this suppression.

Perhaps, the most reasonable way is a peaceful divorse. You will have less obstacles on your way to the EU. We will have less troubles in preservation of our language and culture and closer cooperation with (maybe, even accession to) the rest of Russia.

What I find fascinating, is that the same divisions I witnessed as a child in the emigre' community still exist. Its almost comic by God.!

Tim you can relax now you do not have to spout soviet crap . The Russian bear as gone, you are free. You have your own language to speak, its called Ukrainian be proud of it ,use it, speak it, The days when the soviets made it a crime to speak it are gone . They read Russian papers in Poland Estonia etc .But they would never dream of losing their own language . Its time you stopped bleating on about the Russians and started standing up for yourselves .The Russians only wanted to bleed you dry ,and they did . You are on your own now .And its what the Majority of people in Ukraine wanted .

I agree, if people living in Ukraine are unhappy yet they love Russia so much, why not just move to Russia then?

Ukraine was a major power in Europe centuries prior to when Peter the Great renamed Muscovy as Russia, and it will be a major power in Europe in the years to come. Shame on you that an American respects your country more than you do!

umm...

Ukraine never was a major power in Europe.
Name Ukraine comes from old Polish word for "the border province".

Name that was given to south Lithuania when it was incorporated to Crown.

Before that, of course country named Kiev Rus existed on this land, band it was overrided by mongols and never really had a chance to grow.

Great! You know better which language I should speak, when I should relax, and what I should be proud of.

Any other orders, dear Big Brother?

Because it is our homeland. I, my parents, my grandparents ... were born there. Is it not enough?

My grandfather was also born on todays Ukraine, in city named Lwow. He's Polish, as Lwow is a Polish city. What about people like him then? I know some Russians born in eastern Ukraine too. What about them? Should those people just leave their homeland?
