I would like to know, how many of us are true Ukrainians. True Ukrainians, by my definition, are those who speak UKRAINIAN...not Russian and a mix of Russian and Ukrainian. Ukrainians that were born in Ukraine.

As for me...I was born in Lviv, Ukraine. Speak true Ukrainian. I am Greek Orthodox. I carry my blue and yellow flag almost everywhere. Not ashamed of being a Ukrainian and tell people who I am and where I am from. And...sorry to say and hope this doesn't offend anyone...don't support anything that Russian or Kuchma says for they are robbing Ukraine of everything that we've got. I am strongly against the idea of forming a type of Union with Russia. I hope that in the near future Ukraine will be part of the E.U. and be put on the maps under EUROPE for that is where it belongs.

Was in Lviv this winter, everywhere you look, Russians are buying stuff out. Stores, factories, hotels, street markets. The biggest problem is that we got a KGB in office and he's taking all the money for himself. Once his term runs out...I will personally ride him out of Ukraine and back to his mother land. And for God sakes...what's a president when he can't even speak his countries language!?!?!

Hey Lviv,
What gives you the right to call yourself a "true Ukrainian" and to suggest that anyone else who lives in Ukraine isn't? Your accident of birth, your accident of parents? Is there someone with a golden sword separating us out into two batches, "true Ukrainians over here, all the rest, go to hell"?

We don't recognize you as any truer than any of the rest of us of mixed Russian, or Polish or whatever blood, and if we want to speak Russian, your oppressive wishes don't impress us.

Who anointed you to speak for anyone other than yourself? We've got just as much claim to Ukraine as you do!

This argument goes on and on. Did you just get here? You're beating a dead horse.

A free and democratic Ukraine is a place where everyone, regardless of origin, can feel safe and secure, safe from the abuse of "purists" like yourself who inflict a silly form of racism on the "impure".

Do you want to "ethnic cleanse" us? Will that make you feel good?

Sorry Lviv1256, Ukraine is a beautiful country with a rich history...but it would be nothing without Russia. I'm American who has had both pro UA and pro Russian Ukrainian friends, and it's an interesting arguement. But to NOT wanting an economic allaince with Russia is just stupid. No offence.

Smile Yes Lviv - you are 100% right

This is our tragedy - we are the last of the Ukies.

You see, Ukeland is russified, faithless and in a very difficult economic and moral situation.

Not much is left of our culture, religion and way of life.

BUT that is not a REASON TO QUIT.

Please remember that.

J

Exclamation Peace!

Hi all,

John, I am sure Lviv1256 meant no offense.
And I also believe that you do speak Ukrainian quite well, don't you?

Jarema, be more optimistic. The fortune will then smile at you.

Marc, you don't have the point here. Ukraine has quite good prospectives without re-unification with Russia.
Cooperation and trade are welcome, but on equal terms. The 'alliance' Lviv1256 mentions means that Ukraine becomes a Russian colony once again - we really do not want and do not need such alliance (I speak not only for myself, but for lots of my friends all over Ukraine).

Lviv, the biggest problem is not about KGB or Kuchma. It's about us. We've got a state to build, so let's move on with it.

Cheers to everyone,
Kazhan

we are the true ukrainians, no matter what the other russians on here say. if you don't have the respect to speak ukrainian when you're in ukraine, i have no respect for you.

i was born in lviv also, went to shkola #80 (novyj lviv).

execpt that i'm greek catholic, but oh well, there's only one jesus and i'm pretty sure he hates russians solely - so we're all set there.

i speak ukrainian, although under communism i had to learn that farse of a russian language, that i refuse to use or even think about anymore.

now i live in connecticut, are you from around here? ever come up to CYM in elenville?

Thanks

Thank you TRUE UKRAINIANS for agreeing with me.

I am Greek Catholic also....ãðåêî êàòîëèê....if you aren't ukrainian...you wouldn't be able to really read that cause the è's and å are different. I haven't been to Connecticut but here its a beautiful state. I currently live in Chicago. Will be going to Ukraine for the whole summer...so is anyone wants me to visit some relatives and give them a hello...I'll be more than glad to :-)

And here is a funny story....while I was in Kiev last summer...I was buying tickets to go to a museum, there was a lady that asked me are you foriegn or citizen in Russian. I gave her a nasty look at told her "You're the one that's foriegn here!!"

And if you you've been to Lviv lately...you will hear almost no Russian. This is because we do have an "ethnic cleanseer" And we mean to keep it that way. I also think that we are waiting for the communist generation to die out. There are still many old folks telling us and giving us communistic ways of living and ideas. But I've seen the youth of Ukraine...such as myself...and we are ready to work hard and fight for our country. Ukraine is going up and only up.

ÑËÀÂÀ ÓÊÐÀ¯Í²!

P.S. Anyone hear of the band Îêåàí Åëüçè?
