I'm not positive, but I think he was freed, and then recharged, and freed again. Does anyone have any info on this? Gads, he must be 90 years old now. This was a real bad example of Israeli overreach, in my opinion, and American willingness to accommodate it. I know it runs against some peoples' idea of perfect justice, but I think that statutes of limitations serve justice better than prosecution from imperfect memories. At a certain point we also have to just forgive, even when it hasn't been asked for. Those too-long (and customized) memories keep alive too many conflicts.

Vanya,
what I remembered he went back to the US but there were also some problems as the americans had taken away his citizenship. Still it proves that were the money is the .... is and an innocent man was harmed - I remembered when I was in the States people telling that he was injured in the prison and nobody wanted or could tell how it happened. I don't understand how it is "just" to put a man proven to be innocent on trial again and again.......? Only jews would be able to pull this one. With America just letting them and helping them. If this Ukrainian man was jewish this would have never have happened (not exactly in this situaion).

I recall, too, that he was injured in jail, and this to an old man. He was beaten up. Hanja-be, your memory is right: He lost his US citizenship, and the Powers that Be were not going to give it back to him just because he was an innocent man.
