Question

I wonder whether any of you out there see the parallels between the situation of Chechnya now and the situation of Ukraine in the past. They both are territories with a non-russian ethnical group, who were (are) seen from Russia´s view as it´s property.Dont u think so?

The proposition is absurd. Ukraine was one of the major republics in the USSR. Chechnya was not. There is simply no comparison. The USSR did not regard Ukraine as part of Russia. The question makes no sense.

Indeed, two very different issues. Chechnya was a tiny Republic within the RSFSR, Ukraine was the second largest/powerful Republic within the USSR. In any case, the only issue here is, that Ukraine has absorbed some ethnic Russian land, and obviously can't give it back, but at the same time can't admit, that 'Ukraine' is a 50/50 republic.

Ukraine "admits" that it is composed of several disparate chunks all the time. There are many who wouldn't be upset if Crimea decided to rejoin Russia. The consensus is that as a practical matter we shouldn't start moving borders around. It's a distraction from the other issues facing us.

John:

No need to move borders around as much as reunifying what once was.

Very hypocritical to renounce the Soviet Union, while keeping its spoils like putting Russocentric Trans-Dnester in the Soviet created Moldavian SSR, putting Russocentric Crimea into the Ukrainian SSR and putting Russocentric south Siberia into the northern half of the Kazakh SSR.

The basis behind this thread further illustrates the frequently displayed anti-Russian bias at some of these forums.

The mentioned Russocentric lands have a greater right to independence than Chechnya.

First, Chechnya doesn't have any "right to independence" so, your theme falls flat. You keep trying to pick fights with alleged anti-Russian sorts here, and you're a real bore, Misha. Answer Zbyszek's questions before you go opening up new areas for your sick, dumb form of conflict.
