Question

It is incredible to witness the differefnt opinions on the Independence of the Ukraine.

This is why I proposeed, some time ago, a subjest on whether Ukraine should remain as one country (the pro-independence west versus the east of the country with a differenet view).

Here, I can see how fragile is Ukraine's independence !!!

Knowing the Russian need to expand, Ukraine IS IN A VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION.

Will Ukraine survive the test of time as one country ??!!

I am also very much interested in this topic, I'm writing my senior thesis on this exact subject. If anyone has any comments on:
What would be some potential implications on people of Ukraine if Ukraine and Russia reunited?
Thank you

Ok! here is my opinion. I'm in the middle of the road so long as proposed "unions" do not intefere with sovereign issues, all is well. Warn you this could be a very long subject but to brief and to the point this is what I think.
Globalization is here and regional trading blocks dominate world trade arena,as well as the large global corporations.
Will be nice if Ukraine had good economic ties and access to Baltic ports with Poland and likewise with former CIS countries. Everything then should fall into place with a larger trade and cooperation with EU.
On the other hand I don't believe that a union for the sake of an union with Russia would be a sound decision and in such case Ukraine will be at the mercy of a politically motivated agenda.

Negociations are the key and so long as Ukraine as a sovereign state can negociate a good trading deal then further points like monetary and labour union can be discussed further but it does not have to be with one block either at any one time, multilateral negociations can take place simultaneously as in the case of other trading nations blocks like NAFTA(North American Trade Agreement), Mercosur(Common Market of The Southern Cone of America), ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Countries) APEC(Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum) or even what is now known as CIS.

A straight political union with the old masters is tantamount to suicide

Yes, I have one.

Independence is never granted for free.

Nations must really show determination for self-governance and self-rule. They must fight for it and suffer if necessary.

At the end, the toughest part, they must live for it and embrace it.

If Ukraine and its people will confirm the above that there is a chance that the country will remain as one.

Am I right ????
