I think all the Russia stands on oil and gas export... that's why its core enterprises are related ones for example Gazprom, Sybneft, LukOil etc... Among the car factories I could notice VAZ and GAZ. That's all realted to industry which can be described as big.

Mobile telecommunicetions are represented by MTS and Beeline, both have share in Ukraine too.

And of course they have many big banks as VTB, Vhesheconombank etc.

Of course they have many others productions but they are not giants in World scale anyway.
I assume most of these are state runned? I know gaz makes military jeeps too. I would agree with you on the oil and gas, I have seen a map of russian pipelines that stretch across through ukraine to western europe.

I have heard reports that Russia has found new deposits off the coast of the kamachtka peninsula.

rosoboronexport is 2nd leading arms export in the world.

Do these russian giants compete with one another or more with the world market?

I think part of those enterprises is state runned but part belongs to oligarchs. For example Gazprom is state enterprise but Sybneft belongs to Roman Abramovich and LukOil to Alikperov. VAZ and GAZ are joint stock societies.

If we talk about their weapon traders so they compete mostly on World markets same as Gazprom which is only empowered to export gaz from Russia. But rest of companies including oil ones compete also inside the country.

On the whole, I have impression they put accent more on selling raw resurses then on processing.
