Interfax. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002
KYIV. Jan 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The revenues of the Ukrainian state budget for 2001 have proven to be almost 1 billion hryvnyas lower than expected, Ukrainian Finance Minister Ihor Yushko told the press on Wednesday. The main reason for this shortfall was low earnings from privatization (2.1 billion hryvnyas against the targeted 5.9 billion hryvnyas), Yushko said. The Ukrainian State Tax Administration collected 19.8 billion hryvnyas in taxes in 2001, which is 0.7 billion hryvnyas more than in 2000. The 2001 budget was passed as balanced, with revenues and expenditures planned at about 41.97 billion hryvnyas. The official exchange rate as of January 9 is 5.3109 hryvnyas/$1. |

Ouch, budget deficits aren't good. Still relatively low as well. Having 1/3 of RUssian population only has 1/7 the size of the budget, then again less burden as well. I think federal budget for 2002 in Russia is $64 billion and just over $70 billion in 2003.
