Arkadij,
first I advice to you to go to a library, take many books, newspapers there. Read all and maybe you'll understant yourself instead of pose children's questions.

Thumbs up a few counter-questions

In deference to you, how many nations, if any, can you name, which readily jumped at an opportunity to form a close alliance with the empire-nation, from which they split out? How many bitter lessons, do you think, naive Ukrainians need to learn better?

Arkadi, Hello

Sorry to see you haven't had some very "positive" responses, SO FAR.

Can I give you a British perspective??

(I can see I'm going to get heavily criticised for saying this, however : ) I think some kind of 'Union' between Russia and Ukraine would be a good idea; but nothing like the USSR. Seriously!

Here in Britain we're having a HUGE debate about the E.U.
Some people think we should leave it, some people are un-decided and others (like me) think it has the POTENTIAL to be the best thing for Europe in 2,000 years.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm a citizen of the E.U. and my 'State' is England.
The "United States of Europe" IS s-l-o-w-l-y becomming a Nation - and I'm looking forward to it.
Ukrainian and Russian people are European too. I don't see why (in the future) both countries shouldn't 'join' us.

I know many Ukrainian people are concerned about the power of their big neighbour, but in the E.U. (just as in the U.S.A) no one State "dominates" others.

Almost everyone in Ukraine would like to have the same 'prosperity' as we do in Britain or Germany (BUT WITHOUT LOSING THEIR NATIONAL IDENTITY).

If anyone can suggest a better way of achieving this; I'd love to hear it ???

Russia & Ukraine in the E.U. ??? It might sound like an impossible dream; but remember the old saying:
Even the longest journey begins with a single step.

That's my view, anyhow.

Regards.

S.B.

Bailey you’re more of a dick than I thought. You know absolutely nothing about Ukrainian history and politics, from you post you’re naive at least about Britian's position in the EU. No one state dominates! May I remind you of CAP!

Does the USA have the legacy of Ukraine and Russia. Who the hell would want to enter a relationship where the strongest partner until 10 years ago spent all it’s time attempting to destroy your entire culture? Don’t give any 'that was in the past' nonsense, if your interest in Ukraine lay outside your underpants you’d have not made this cretinous post.

It’s good for Ukraine to trade with all the former USSR countries, but her future lies in a wider Europe and the world. This will not be achieved by being the bast*rd child of Russia.

Irena you are absolutly right, I am very stupid, and very childish.

There are two reasons: first of all, I should never have used my name here because you, apperantly, take me for one of your friends. Second I shouldn't have posted this thread at all because apperantly most people come on this site to exersize thire ability to make fun of others.
But seeing as there is at least one person here willing to camly talk (there isn't much else you can do over internet you know) about this I will keep on coming here.

Now If one starts reading books one must understand that they too are written by people with opinons, and can there for mislead the reader, newspapers and magazines are good if you trust completly to what the politicians are saying.
All I wanted is to hear some real opinons.

You are right, I can't recall any, but I want to know why you are calling Russia an empire-nation, and what bitter lessons did Ukrain learened and when "in history" it happend. I know one bitter lesson that I think the whole RUS learned about unity, when we were conqerd one by one about a thousand years ago. And now the same thing is happening--we are divided and what for? So that a politician who no longer wishes to be the governer of a republic could be the governer of a country?
