Syrian & russian supports in UN

Since 10 months Syrian citizens suffering from their government killing and still the Russian government supporting the killers by utilizing Veto in the un , I think the Syrian are human not goats , really I wonder why they support killers

As you may know Russia has been supplying arms and other materials to the current Syrian regime for many years. To that end it is a friend of Putin's Russia. There may also be a situation that the Syrian government still owes money for these goods and it would not be in Russia's interest to allow it to fail.

Additionally, I believe there still exists a kind of cold war between the Putin regime and the USA and its western allies. So any regime cited by the west as bad, deserves the support of the Kremlin.

At the United Nations the governments of China and Russia always seem to unify in support of countering western democratic cries for action to be taken against tyrannical regimes involved in the persecution of their own people. The only reason I can imagine they do this is because they know that their own regimes do not promote true freedom. They both rule their peoples by an inconspicuous restriction of freedom of expression of both the media and individuals. The more these popular revolutions for people power gain momentum throughout the world, the more their own priviliged positions of power are at risk.

I believe support is given or witheld by nations such as USA, Russia, China based firstly on what benefits them strategically, and secondly on what is disadvantageous to their opponents. The rights or wrongs of Syrias actions and the well being of their people are of no interest to Putin, the USA and the west or China.
