LMAO Once again the bleeding hearts of the leftist media blame the USA for somone elses problem...
Let the people of Ukraine decide their own destiny.

"The United States should be pressing harder to stop the democratic erosion. One way to do so is to explicitly link further progress in economic relations with Ukraine to improvements in human rights - and to urge the governments of the European Union to follow suit."

AkMike, it seems that I'm starting to suffer "senior moments" whereby I fail to understand correctly what I am reading. Can you please advise me where in Irene's linked article "Democratic Revolution in Reverse" leftist media are blaiming the USA, because I cannot focus upon it.
Also what does LMAO mean.
Thanking you in anticipation of your kind help. GG

No problem GG, read the article by the Washington (com)Post, and at the end of it you'll see that phrase I quoted.

LMAO is simply `puter slang for , "Laugh My Arse Off" very similar to LMFAO and to kick it up several notches, ROTFLMAO, Roll On The Floor... LMAO.

AkMike, as a self made small businessman, who has been permitted to develop and prosper without state interference, I can understand your fear of an overpowering regime which dictates and imposes limitations on your every move (business and social).
You were born into the American dream whereby an individual was free to benefit from his hard work and ingenuity.
Why then do you see the following statement as “leftie” (implied socialist) propaganda? You also wish that the Ukrainians could be left alone to make their own destiny.

"The United States should be pressing harder to stop the democratic erosion. One way to do so is to explicitly link further progress in economic relations with Ukraine to improvements in human rights - and to urge the governments of the European Union to follow suit."

I interpret this statement differently. For me it is saying that those countries that have already achieved a better position of democratic society, should not continue to give financial or similar support to Ukraine, if fledgling democratic virtues are reduced (they believe that they are).

We are seeing reports of happenings in Ukraine, that although taking place against a background of free capitalism, are reminiscent in style to that of former Soviet times.

Of course it must remain for the Ukrainian people to determine their own future and nothing in that statement says otherwise.
For someone who I believe has never personally experienced the encumbrance of living under a “socialist” regime, you seem to still suffer the “reds under the bed syndrome” cultivated within your country during previous years.

Now that's funny!

My gripe about that article is that unbiased new reporting shouldn't dictate or even suggest the route a governmet should act. News reporting should be exactly that.. Reporting!
Let the readed think for themselves and determine how they will tell their elected representitives to act. NOT some reporter giving their views on the matter. If it were under the banner of an op-ed (opinion -editorial) that'd be different. Then the reader could take it with a grain of salt and decide for them selves.

The writer seems to think that the USA must act to determine the desiny of another country.. B.S.!

Your staement that " as a self made small businessman, who has been permitted to develop and prosper without state interference, I can understand your fear of an overpowering regime which dictates and imposes limitations on your every move (business and social)." is full of holes too.

The government has severly hampered my business since inception by many laws and regulations. Many totally un-needed but they provide employment for some pencil pusher that only wants to provide job security for themselves by enacting more laws and regulations..
It's be better if they would be on state welfare and be honest enough to admit that they are unable to work in private business because they are inept.
