Hi GG
Thank you for your reply. I visited relatives in Ukraine last year, I have seen their disillusionmet with past gov'ts. They may not want to talk democracy, because they fully do not understand how wonderful 'our' working democracies are....compared with what they have. And yes growing a garden to supplement food on their table is a priority with many. This is where someone like you, and me with my Kyiv Post comments, will hopefully show them, that indeed their country will one day become more democratic with less corruption. If they sit and do nothing, then Yanukonvict will INDEED WIN. Think about it. They need every bit of encouragement we can give them. I am not suggesting you have neighbourhood rallies and speak on democracy.......but you must keep 'harping' on their duty to keep fighting for a working democracy. But you appear reluctant to say anything for fear you may not be allowed to return. I think you are wrong. If you like/love Ukraine so much; you should be willing to help them,,,,,quietly in their homes, if need be. If you say nothing.......you are helping Yanuk. Remember a landslide is started by one pebble falling, starting another and another....... The Orange Rev. was just that, and unfortunately a great oppurtunity was missed by Yulia and Yushenko......very dissappointing. But that is now history. At least she is keeping Yanuks feet to the fire,,,,,and that is good. Re: the children........you misunderstood what I said,,,,and I may have not been clear either. I did not mean to approach and speak to the children,,,,,,,,but to speak to the parents/citizens/voters who must stand up a fight for a better democracy,,,,,,,,so THEIR CHILDREN will have a better society to live in. BLESS UKRAINE!!! |

Wonderful Democracies!
From bkrevel:-
They may not want to talk democracy, because they fully do not understand how wonderful 'our' working democracies are....compared with what they have. If you had read the sentiment of most of my political threads / posts on this website, you would know that I do not share your view about our wonderful democracies in the west. Our politicians are more sophisticated than that of Ukraine by disguising their behaviour. Once elected, they are for the most part working for themselves, their sponsors and their party dogma, rather than on behalf of the best interests of those that voted for them. We have not seen the like of Sir Winston Churchill or Franklin Roosevelt since those times and are unlikely to ever see such leaders again. The European Union, like many British politicans have been found to be faudulently claiming on their expenses. Within the British Parliament attempts are being made to clean the system up, but within the EU, auditors are refusing to sign off their accounts for the 15th consecutive year. If my country had a real democracy, British soldiers would not be in Afghanistan, as the majority of Brits don't want us to be there. I have read on this website that Yanukovich is sponsored by Donetsk based oligrachy. I believe that our governments are dancing to the tune played by several hundred of the world's richest and most powerful global business oligarchy, whose tentacles have invaded most aspects of control over the commom man's life. This is the greatest reason why the gap between the richest and the poorest within our society is widening at an alraming rate. |
