Russian language

I was shocked to read in the Kyiv Post that parliament passed a law that Russian will be the official language of the courts. This from the Russian who promised Ukrainian would be the official language of the country. Is this because more Russians commit crimes in Ukraine? I also read that the parliament is changing the laws regarding local elections so it is almost impossible to run an opposition. Mr. Kuchma is back!!!

No it is not my first shock. It actually sickens me and many others. And no sense in asking when this will stop. My cousin says, its back to Russia!! The scary part is this man is so uneducated, who is actually running the country, or does anyone know?

What is so terrible about that?? every Ukrainian speaks and understands Russian fluently whereas not all do the same with Ukrainian especially those from the Donetsk region, so surely it is only fair(and also saves on the cost of translators) that when in court a language is spoken that is guaranteed to be understood by all???...

I am speaking of Ukraine. Not Russia. We all know why it is that there is a large presence of Russians in Ukraine. Today there is quite a large population of Muslim people lliving in England, so should the courts change from English to their mother tongue?

One of the cool things about visiting Western Europe for someone like me (can speak English), is that you can go up to virtually any person and talk to them in English. Stupid Germany, France, Spain, etc should change their court system to English. After all, most of their people can speak English. Good logic.

They have gone still futher : yesterday they cancelled a Ukrainian language exam for those entering Post-graduate course, and the Ukrainian language as obliatory for Independent testing.
Ukrainian should be entered into the Read Book of Endangered Languages with this pro-Russian policy!
