Thumbs up history in brief

To set the stage, for the discussion, a few important dates/events, touching on the Crimean peninsula, are presented.

o 1280-1780 [?] Crimean {Tartar} Khanate
o 1648-1711 Ukrainian Hetmanate State
o 1687-1689 Crimean Campaiigns, by Prince Golitsyn
o 1769-1774 Russo-Turkish war
o 1775 Zaporozzian Sitch abolished
o 1784 Potemkin Villages
o 1854-55 Crimean War
o 1921-1941 Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic
o 1944 Mass deportation of Tartars
o 1945 CASSR abolished
o 1954 Crimea ceded to Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic
o 1991 todate, Autonomous Crimean Republic of Ukraine

This compilation of historical periods/events is, by far, not exhaustive or all-inclusive. The flow of the discussion will, hopefully, reveal the weaknesses and the strengths of this limited presentation.

Most of the 17 century ,there was lot of strugle and wars between Tartars Cossacks and Poles.Tartars were under Turkish Sultanate protections so they were kind of arogant to slavic north. That strugle did no good for them on long time and also was not beneficial for everybody in that area
Today what you are getting is Russians Tatars ,who are probebly kind of pro Russian but I am not sure of that.
My predecesors were from that time and from Crimea, they were taken as a POW by Comonwealt army in one of those endless wars and settled up north in Lithuania in exchange to serfe in Union Army if needed and they must like it there as they never went back to Crimea back.
But of course over centuries they were polonise and lithuanise and there is hardly enething left of theirs laungage ,but the traditions and to some degree religon still in practise but on some scale.
THey were never in big numbers and intermariges did most of the demage.
But they were very patriotic for the Union and hardly suport any anemies of the Union ,rather they were first to fight in defence.
THe bigest mistake what they makes (the Crimea Tatars)
was geting themself involve with Germans in last war ,for that they payed hard price ,like these deportations to Siberia somewhere.
Will be nice to have someone here from Crimea ,Tatar or someone alse, then we could have a new info right from horse mouth .

Thumbs up good information - more needed

A few questions:

o Bibliography on the subject - any independent, or even Turkish, sources?
o Clarification on the Union - is that the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth?
o A chronology of Crimean Khanate historical periods?
o Any current Tartar sources, publications?

An individual directly apprized of the current Tartar Community activism {as suggested} would be a welcome addition to this thread.

After some more preliminaries, an attempt will be made to rollout the discussion. Any comments on discussion theme, are welcome. No sense to plunge into it, if there is lack of consensus.

Norrym, Irena, TuchajBay,

I would personally like to thank all of you here. This IS becoming quite an informative little educational discussion for me on the deeper history of the region. And, Norrym's "chronology" has given me a bit of "direction" with digging up research sources.

Something strikes me a bit here at this point…

Could the Crimea/Tartar situation have in some ways an analogy to the Israel/Palestinian situation, only without the religious overtones?

Just a question I'm throwing out for general comment.

Thumbs up a plunge into new territory

Firstly, any and all, interests on the subject are highly valued. All contributions are and will be appreciated. No gurantee on fully meaningful rexults can be given.

This is a self-imposed undertaking and, if successful, we all will share equally the fruits of our labor. If, in the end, some recommendation will evolve, we can offer it pro bono to the government.
