As most of you are fellow Slavs, I though I would ask what are your views on Slavic unity. Personally I think it is important that a union should be established, involving at least the willing Slavic nations. Such a union would protect Slav culture from western expansion (EU etc.) and imperialism. I am not necesarily speaking of a USSR sort of thing, but more of a common alliance and union (perhaps a parallel rival to the EU) so that our interests are put first instead of Western dictatorship and demands.
Does anyone agree with me. By the way I am new here, so hello to all of you. |

Before attempting to address the questions raised, one has to define the "Western dictatorship" and "Slav unity". The terms being undefined, as they are, place the presented proposal in a vacuum. The many counter-arguments, which come to mind, could miss the mark if interpretations are askew.

Welcome
Hi and welcome to our board.
I somewhat agree with you, that such union must be established. However, I don't see EU as a "Western Dictatorship". All EU provides is good for economy and has nothing to do with either you're a Slav or not... But this Slav-Union, must not directly involve "political-moving of borders" its been enough of that done. But rather something like helping each other kind of union. And where are you from? Good luck, Stas

Slav union?
Hello Misio from nowhere,
probably we've discussed this theme...Ah! there we were pulled in E.U. By the way, do you mean Union with Bellorusia and Russia? Do you mean we are the same? And what about Russia's chip (ôèøêà)"Great Power - Russia" and its warlikeness,Chechnia? And how you are going to find a common language with Lukashenko? Anser these simple questions. Don't urge horses... Welcom to us. |

Hello, I am from Australia, and I am in actual fact Polish rather than Ukrainian. I hope to bring the warmest greetings to you Ukrainians, fellow Slavic peoples.
Well, when I speak about Western dictatorship (NATO alliance) I speak of the bullying that has been done to Serbia with regards to some internal conflicts, which in its entirity has remained largely untold for various reasons (for one, the KLA have been glorified as peace fighters but have been murdering and raping for years). Why is it only the Serbs have been punished where far worse regimes such as those against the Kurds or the East Timorese for example have been let off very lightly if anything? With Slav unity I mean only a union, like what you say, StasUA, and not some Pan Slavic state which will not work and only perhaps cause the loss of seperate Slav nationalities. The loss of Slavic cultures should not happen - Ukraine, Byelorus shall remain independent and not join Russia. Also, slightly off topic I am concerned about the Sorb people who are in danger of being assimilated with the Germans. I think they should have their own independant state to preserve an endangered culture. The EU is just spreading their United Europe idea, which will only make Slavic nations (and some others) more like the rest of Europe. An example is that Poland will be modelling themselves on Germany, and Germaness will seep into Slavic culture which is terrrible to me. In the EU, only the countries that have "earnt" their place high up on the European scene will have power - Slavic countries (regradless of population) will never be properly represented. Irena, I believe you are merely seeing the Chechen conflict through one sided reports. I don't know why you support terrorists and the "Mujahadeen". They are fanatical with their holy wars and will happiliy die for their (killing for allah) cause. The Mujahadeen are the warlike ones. If you don't agree with my words, please don't take offence. Regards, Misio |

Slavic unity, a great idea in principle. It would be excellent if we could cease our in fighting and put to bed the legacy of our histories. However, it’s going to take a generation or more to achieve this.
I find it difficult to say this , but unity ain’t ever going to be found until our grandparents are dead. There’s too much ill feeling about the past, the older generation ain’t ever going to let it rest. (It’s still prevalent in the younger generations) That’s why there is so much animosity in the Diaspora. Despite any of this, ‘Slavic Unity’ should not be sort at the expense of European Unity. People dividing themselves in to ethnic groups as history will evidence leads only to disaster . Proud to be a Slav, ethnic Ukrainian, British, European and a human. The best of all worlds. ![]() Take care Vlas P.S. I’d still like to see the Aussies get the butts kicked at sport, just once before I die… Less likely than ‘Slavic Unity’ methinks ![]() |

Misio, you see, you (yourself) placed on the same footing russians with chechens terroristes. But you also see one-sidedly on the problem. To throw bombs on heards of people is a warlike at terrorism level. And not only Putin do it, but all russian people. At the moment we should collaborate with Russia only economicly. Russia hasn't learn yet to speak to others country enjoying equal rights. Bellorussia? What Unit with Bellorussia? It's fun and sad. Now your Poland, Misio. We have quit good relations now, but Poland all the time keeps aloof from its Eastern neighbours. Everybody prays for West now! But as I said apropos of the E.U. - "every event has its own time". |
