My sister works for social services. I don't know the numbers, but the people are rude, disrespectful, and think that their bills are not their responsibility.
Stepan,

When I first got of school, I worked in Social Services.

Your sister is served daily w/a double whammy. She is working in a Jersey City environment, where appx 65% of the population lives below the poverty level. This is a place where the per capital income is a little over $19K per annum. There is no doubt that the hostilities she experiences are tremendous.

I quit after 8 months and I was working in New York City during the good times.

BUT the truth of the matter is that overall welfare recipients simply do not get enough financial aid to cover their basics, which includes clothing and school supplies for their children, so they have very little choice on whether or not to pay their electric and gas bills.

Not that it's relevant, she works in NYC. And this doesn't have a direct link with the health care, but these are some of the people who are in such need of health care. They think everything should be paid for them.

I just don't understand this. They say 46 mil are not insured (some argue that number should be 10 mil less because they are not citizens). US population is at 307 mil. Thats 15% of the population.

How is it fair that 85% make up for 15%? (Technically even less fair considering higher income brackets will pay more)

Some polls for you:

49% Support State Lawsuits Against Health Care Plan
54% of Voters Oppose the Health Care Plan
64% Say Congress Is Doing A Poor Job
50% Less Likely To Vote For Congress Member Who Supports Health Care Plan

Don't know if I shared one of my favorite songs of the year:

I would be curious how many of the people living in poverty or on the streets are people who are not mentally capable of looking after themselves. Do you just throw them on the trash heap. If a child is born with fetal alcohol syndrom, it is not the childs fault the mother drank alcohol or did drugs before the child was born. Are you not a nation of caring people. We watch as billions of $ are spent in Afghanistan and for what purpose? Can we not look after our own?

Since the economy worldwide is in the toilet. And the current crop of politico's has managed to out $pend any other batch in history while passing the final bill on to my greatgrandchildren to try to pay. I suggest that we try to rebuild the business economy.. Then there'll be jobs available tothose that want them. The multi generaltional welfare leeches will continue sucking the blood out of the US and the fresh batchs of imported leeches can do the same. The only way that there can be a health care is if someone pays the DRs. They're not going to work for free. Neither are the nurses or the hospitals, somone is going to pay.

Nothing is free when it concerns healthcare.

All of this isn't worth worrying over since the world will end in 2012 anyway!

I'm no expert on health matters, insurance, or politics but i do know that paranoia is never good for a nation. Obama seems to be the most controversial presidents the US has every had and i think by creating this new health care system so soon was a mistake. I think he is trying to do too much too soon to try to prove himself that a black president can be successful. Rather than tackle such a huge issue as health care, maybe he should have started with something easier like dentistry. If the new system succeeded then there would be a lot less opposition, and if it failed we don't risk the entire country going into the toilet.

Obama campaigned on health care reform, everyone knew his agenda and the majority of the US voted for him. If this country falls apart, only the people are to blame. There are those that voted for Obama just to spite the Republicans for the wars and that's very sad. But whatever happens i think that humankind has the ability to adapt and overcome. We'll be fine, one way or another. And if not, we can always move to Ukraine!

Two things.
1. Now we will watch Trillions and for what purpose?
2. Technically, we are looking over our own with Afghanistan. We are looking over our soldiers.

And about people on the streets. Many, not all, choose to live there. A shelter would be a step up, no?

I know, so many people are forgetting that.
Besides, I think a war between US and Russia is predicted for '10.

I think Obama knew what he was doing by doing this "too soon". Because then people will forget about it in 3 years (now 2) and he could blame health care on Bush.

You know i just thought of something, and i'd be shocked if i'm the only one who has thought of it as well. Mexico has a great health care system. They get sick, they come to America and get treated for free, then they either get caught and get a free trip back or they stay and get all sorts of tax free jobs. Has anyone tried doing this to Canada? They have free health care too, but do they treat everyone like the US does or do you have to prove something first? How's their economy doing? Maybe we should have a mass immigration to Canada and see how they handle it! OMG it's nearly brilliant!
