Bob,

Fact is that from 1964-1967 the Zaporizhska Sich was the center of the anti-Soviet activism, more so than in any other place in the SSR Ukraine. I do not understand why Irene would doubt what Viktoria is posting. In 1967 Moscow started intense anti-Ukrainian propaganda in areas like Zaporizzhia , Khotyn and Kamenets-Podilskij, which were clinging to the Ukrainian language and to the concept of a free Ukraine, while other parts of the country had already ceded their will to the Communists.

This is not a figment of Viktoria's imagination. One need only to study some of the animated anti-Ukrainian films with which the Russians were flooding these regions in 1967+. These were subliminal and yet not as successful as Moscow wanted them to be, so then they started to physically mandate their Soviet laws.

Given what is currently going on in the country, this would be a good time for Western Ukrainians to hear what people like Viktoria are saying. Dwelling on what the exchange rate of $30 was at the time is of no consequence to this exchange.

Hannia

Thank you for your reply. Very interesting.

Would it be a fair conclusion to cautiously assume,,,,that the the forced resettlement of Russians to this area,,,,,and possibly a lot of regions in Eastern Ukraine; ,,,,,,took place in the sixties.

Heck, I graduated high school in '67,,,,,and could not imagine people being forced to settle in my home town, or to be sent somewhere else to live. The sorrows of what the communists did to the human body and soul!!

If,,,,and I am specualting,,,in the sixties, the Ukrainian spirit was so strong,,,,,,how in 25 years could they be turned or changed (brainwashed) so completely to the soviet and communist way.? Or were there that many Russians forcibly resettled to this area, that the Ukr population became a minority, thus they became beaten down, (as Victoria states),,,,,and quietly live and say nothing , to avoid harrassment and persecution.

Why couldn't that big bear just keep her cubs at home!!!!!!

Bob,

Everyone has been sold a bill of goods by the Soviets. Moscow has been playing Ukrainians like fiddles, East against West and West against East. Their success is evident even in our little forum here.

68+ yrs ago the Germans occupied Vohlyn and Polesie and the UPA magically appeared. The punitive NKVD defeated the insurgent movement. Once defeated, the evil movement was suppressed and the losers were branded anti-soviet and
pro-fascist.

In time, the Soviet Union imploded and Ukraine became independent. However, even today, the Moscow forces are still playing the card of two Ukraines, the pro-Nationalist faction in the West against the Soviet East, all the time arguing that the East never wanted independence. Moscow has even hired the most sophisticated American PR guns available, to prove this point, not only to the Ukrainians, but to the world.

In the KGB Archives there are some interesting secret documents that have slowly been coming to light.

The OUN structure was not contained in Western Ukraine alone. Appx a third of the UPA fighters were native Eastern Ukrainians. Additionally, one of the centers of the mass anti-fascist, anti-communist movement was in Dniepropetrovsk. Under the leadership of Timofij Semchyszyn, alias River, the Eastern Ukrainian Partisans created quite a bit of consternation for the Soviets in places like Odessa for example.
________________________________________________________________________________

Until Ukrainians figure out that East and West are the same people, they will never be free of the Moscovite yoke.
