Friends, we live in hard times. In spite of this we always have chance to smile. I believe this news is worth attention. President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko opened his virtual office on… popular social network Twitter.
There is opinion it’s connected with success of Obama’s electoral page on Twitter which was visited by millions of people from all parts of the World. It’s not secret new Presidential elections will be conducted in January of 2010. This way Yushchenko wants to get closer with Internet audience. The page at the moment is made from shortened messages of President’s official site. Interface of his page is English and content is Ukrainian. Design and feedback need to be developed and this is in project. But we can already look at this first draft. Twitter / President_UA |

UA president on Twitter
The page looks o.k. but I think you should be the interpreter
It looks as if the world is having a very tough time. In Canada our banking rules are very strict so although we are not in great shape, I think we are suffering less than many others.

Well I think Yushchenko can afford interpreter but structure of Twitter doesn’t allow multilingual content. That’s why knowledge of Ukrainian is required. Finally, he is President of Ukraine so he can’t use English for his page.
I’m glad Canada suffers not so much. Crisis however exceeded frames of banking sector and turned into global fall of demand and producing. In Ukraine when we heard first about banking crisis in US no one treated this as serious danger for our industries. However few months later Europeans cut export of our steel and chemistry. As US and majority of European countries Ukraine has export-dependant economy so we can’t avoid global trends. |

Although I like the fact that the president uses all these Internet services, Twitter is not necessary. Are we sure that he is the one that wanted a Twitter web page?
Either way, I would suggest going to Îôiöiéíå ïðåäñòàâíèöòâî Ïðåçèäåíòà Óêðà¿íè, that's where all the data links to anyway. I have high hope for President Yushchenko and like how much he has improved the country as far as offering more transparency and making government information more accessible. |

I would suggest English version Official web-site of President of Ukraine
I think Twitter page is just being created, they have not final design. If it worked well for Obama, why shouldn’t it work for Yushchenko? Today he has really high chances to be reelected, much higher then half of year ago. Timoshenko's betrayal of national gas interests in Moscow, her under-carpet agreements with Putin about future presidency and most of all criminal attempts to steal 11 billion c.m. of gas from property of RosUkrEnergo to own pocket proved she is nothing but lame adventuress. Yes we still remember she was sitting in prison for gas fraud in 90ties and likely she will appear in prison again for her new gas fraud. Party of Regions is still robust but they obviously lack bright leadership and clear ideology. In new pragmatic order they may become partners of democratic team since coalition between Our Ukraine and BYT in fact failed. Timoshenko at the moment is not able to control even single TV channel that’s why I can’t see her chances for future Presidency. Her ranking is decreased drastically. Battle for future Presidency is possible between Yushchenko, Yanukovich and rising star Yatsenuk. Yushcnenko’s position is enforced by new pro-presidential parties as United Center and For Ukraine! I think these movements will instill fresh blood and will secure wider support. |

I pray to God that he gets reelected, but I do not think twitter will help him.
The USA and Ukraine (Europe in general) use a different thinking process. In USA this last election people were most concerned about having a first black president and having a symbol for the country not making the country better. For those reasons they wanted to see what Obama is doing every second and twitter helped with that. Think about it, the most important question for Obama for the first month in office was the status of the family dog. I still have hope that Ukraine will not turn into this. I want Ukrainian values to come back and I think Yuschenko represents a lot of those values. He has the experience, he does not use his power to rip of the country, and something I really like: he's very religious. |

Well I think we have not decent opportunity except Yushchenko. When I look at faces of Timoshenko and Yanukovish I shake because of disgust for them. They only need money and power chairs, they don’t need democracy or good life for Ukrainians.
I admit Yushchenko rule was not ideal, he made many mistakes and most of all in cadre. He was too trustful and cheerful and often surrounded himself by conjuncture toadies. Many adventurers wanted to use his popularity so they expressed a sort of orange position just to get on the board and take a piece. This is especially true about Timoshenko who just parasited on his popularity and created from her BYT real mafia structure which raids enterprises and organization like gangsters. Among her last “achievements” there were voluntary repeal of Ternopyl regional council elections where her party was supposed to get nearly zero of votes, dismissal of foreign office minister Ogryzko who criticized her ally, Russian ambassador, and most of all raider’s attack on private gas trading company when she illegally took away from private person property on 4 billions of dollars. Now of course Yushchenko is very careful with people he picks the best ones to be around him and I think this will help well. He makes popular decisions, talks correct words to people and in fact he is only guard of democracy and independence in Ukraine. I believe we just have not other choice if we want save nation and country. |
