I read on MIG news site this morning that an aircraft belonging to the Russian Armed forces of Ukraine was involved in the bombing. How can this name be so? Does Ukraine itself not control its armed forces?
It might belong to the russian black sea navy in the crimea. But i'll check it out.

joyce, can you post a link of the sight?

There is no "Russian Armed Forces of Ukraine", but there is an Russian naval base (a remnant of Soviet fleet) based in Crimea (Ukraine does not have control over that forces). It was left there during collapse, pretending it was impossible to move at that time. Since then agreement was extended, now our gov trying to remove it, but so far earliest date for removal is 2017 :-(. And, of course, there is an opposition to this, it seems clear it is sponsored from Russian side that way or another. Btw could you please provide link to news site, so i could be more specific ?

I think what the article(which i have not seen yet) means is the naval fleet like you have said RmD

here is the black sea fleet naval aviation (Russia)based on Ukrainian soil.
872nd Independent Anti-submarine Helicopter Regiment - HQ at Ka-27;
917th Independent Composite Air Regiment - HQ at Kacha - An-2, An-12, An-26, Be-12, Mi-8;
43rd Independent Naval Shturmovik (Assault) Air Squadron - HQ at Gvardeyskoye - Su-24;

Anyways. Ukraine and Georgia are good friends. Ukraine, Isreal, and the U.S. are Georgia's main arms suppliers.

By chance does anyone know is Ukraine still supply georgia while its in the conflict with tanks and other armaments?

Does anyone know if Georgia has air superiority fighter planes? I know they have frogfoots. Some sources say they have mig-21s and 25s, but if they have them, they probably would have used them already.

More news. Abhazia just mobolized its forces and is attacking georgian positions with artillery and jet planes. abhazia is another break away region that wants to be part of Russia but currently within the borders of Georgia.

Abhazian force

Equipment
  • T-55 and T-72 tanks - 50-60
  • BMP-1, BMP-2 IFVs; BTR-60, BTR-70 APCs - 70-85
  • ZSU-23-4 self-propelled anti-aircraft system - 6 (?)
  • BM-21 "Grad" - 7
  • 2A18/D-30 122mm howitzers; D-44 guns - about 80
  • 120mm and 82mm mortars - 42
Abkhazia has 2 Su-27 fighters, 1 MiG-21 fighter, 1 Yak-52, 2 Su-25 attack aircraft, 2 L-39 combat trainers, 1 An-2 light transport, 7 Mi-8 helicopters and 3 Mi-24 helicopters

according to world air forces and other reports may not be correct.

has Ukraine taking an official stance yet?

with Ukraine aiding the Georgian military in the past, I certainly hope they cut all ties with Georgia, do the right thing, and support Russia.

???

1) Do you realise that after Georgia, Ukraine will be NEXT? (Russia will use Russian and pro-Russian population in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea as an excuse)

2) Do you realise that Russia does't really care at all about Ossetians, that from Russia's side, this war is about oil and power in the region?

Michael is right that huge pipeline that runs through Georgia would make Russia a powerhouse.

But according to your first response of a stance, the answer would be yes. They said they might block russian ships from reentering the Crimea. But unforntunantly i don't know how they are going to do this since Ukraine doesn't have a big navy.
Quote:
Ukraine warned Russia on Sunday it could bar Russian navy ships from returning to their base in the Crimea because of their deployment to Georgia's coast.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said the Russian naval deployment to Georgia's Black Sea coast has the potential to draw Ukraine into the Russian-Georgian conflict over the separatist province of South Ossetia.

Ukraine reserves the right to bar ships which may take part in these actions from returning to the Ukrainian territory until the conflict is solved
