Exclamation Ukraine joined WTO

Ukraine has joined WTO. So what do the members think: good, bad or it won't matter? Glad to read your opinions.

Althought the WTO is itself in a state of termoil - no-one knowing who is really in charge and living is a state of constant indecision - I think that Ukraines' joining can only do good.

I would like to think that corruption would reduce, as they come up against countries who won't tolerate corruption (so much ) and it will give Ukrainian industry a global incentive to work within an approved system. With steel being so popular - it won't do (my) England's economy any good - we will lose jobs, but for Ukraine it will be good.

Up with Orange, I say.

Hey guys you are fast... I just was wondering if someone will publish the info here and when it will happen. Hmm... rapid reaction.

Joining the WTO is good. On the whole. It is very profitable for large ukrainian industries and exporters which now will get access to new markets... and btw we have hundreds articles of export not just steel. But also wheat, sugar, alcohol, coal and so on...

It will rise the competition though for lesser producers, for those which play on Ukrainian markets exceptionally. Also, it is challenge for out banking system.

The expectations are optimistic and the risks are not so serious... so this is definitely step forward.

We hope and doubt at the same time. It was a long way and still 5 year transitional period is ahead. Steel industry is very strong and successful - I live in so called steel heart of the country. We worry about agriculture mainly. We have to protect our lands and producers. But how can we do it ? Nobody trusts those corrupted politicians – both European and Ukrainian.

The strongest black critics come from Moscow. State controlled Russian media say WTO is a road to hell. They are very angry because Ukraine joined it before Russia. That’s explain their angriness.

Up with orange as Andrew says ! I like it.

First, it is necessary to realize joining the WTO is not the end of “long road”… it is beginning of long battle. Because Ukraine will gain access but it also will become accessible. It will make our well protected national producers run much faster which is good because long runs are useful for the health.

Second, there are not members of WTO which just gain and don’t loose. Everyone wins something and looses something in WTO. For example, German agriculture hugely looses because of WTO membership but car producers hugely gain. So Ukraine necessarily will appear in same situation - while large exporters of wheat and steel will profit, some minor national players will suffer.

Most likely, our export will rise… but import also. Many imported goods will become cheaper because import duties will go down… with cars, down to 10%. And this will enliven our market, I guess. Customers will profit anyway.

Our steel industry … yes, yes… I see some folks beyond are already in panic because of that hard competition. Don’t worry guys, Ukraine has 5 years to pass some necessary laws so you have whole 5 years… at least, it’s enough to write testament.

Corruption in Ukraine… some people pour on us dirty water from loo. It’s justification for a lazy one. Professional, decent businesspeople were coming here in Leo’s times and they got business successfully… they were coming here in Orange times and they got business successfully… they were coming here in Regional revenge time and they are coming now and they are still getting business successfully.

If some individual fails what for do we blame Ukrainian business? It is just lack of conversational skills or incompatibility in concrete case and just.

What I think is this is bad. It is another step to global slavery and it won’t do Ukraine good eventually. But it is just my opinion.

It is not step to "global slavery", it is step to global marketplace, to open world.

No other ways are given... it was just shame for us to stay in company of renegades as Pakistan.

It chellenges us of course but Ukraine has to overcome its provincial complexes.
